Hey y’all I’m a long time NLU fan but just joined the refuge and thought I’d introduce myself. Lifetime St. Louisian but completely agree with Randy and Tron and all their STL takes. I love some winter golf and am always finding myself out at Gateway so if anyone wants to brave a cold ass day shoot me a message.
In the spirit of discussion I’d love to know y’alls thoughts on Annbriar. Played it for the first time a couple summers ago and I think I’ve played it more than anywhere else since. Worth the drive? Best public in St Louis area? Favorite hole? Can anyone drive the creek on 11?!
Annbriar is great - wish it could more easily be walked. Fav hole is 13, although I heard the tree guarding the left of the green may be removed, which would be a bummer. Its my favorite (public course in the area), just hard to constitute the drive for me these days.
Can’t say I ever tried carrying the creek on 11 - guess I don’t see the advantage with all the room they give you left.
The ‘redesign’ (it’s criminal to call it that) is a tough look. The current 11th hole is one of the best holes in town and he’s ruining it to make 12 better which isn’t a good trade off. Glad its getting a facelift but I’m pretty pessimistic that the routing will be better. Ive been trying to wrap my head around why he chose to leave some of the more bland holes like 10 untouched. and keep 18 as a MONSTER par three from the back
First time I played it I walked it with my dad (beginning of covid when we couldn’t take carts). I wouldn’t wish that walk on my worst enemy. 13 is great - definitely intimidating off the tee over the big gulch.
