Does anyone have any idea what course Fried Egg Andy played when he was in STL this past weekend?

Hey guys coming into town on monday and tuesday. Planning to play a round on tuesday. I was looking online for st louis golf course reviews. It looks like forest park, tapawingo, and gateway are the courses in or right near the city. Dont feel like driving a hour out of the city to play. Any recommendations or no goes of those 3 courses i listed above? Thanks

I think most would agree Gateway is the better option out of those three. Several other good options too but further away from the city.

I made a tee time for Monday 12:30 at Bogey Hills for three the two people that were going to join me backed out it’s $80 including cart. Let me know if anyone wants to join I’ll probably call and cancel the other two spots sometime this afternoon.

Quick bump for the 9/16 event at the Quarry. 3 spots still open.

Hi All,

I was hoping to tell you all this summer at one of the Roost events that we would come back in town for but it hasn’t panned out that way, so I wanted to jump in here to let you all know some news…Mrs. dfbuzz and I have moved back to Chicago.

We’ll still be coming back to STL periodically as the in-laws live here, so I’ll keep lurking in the thread and I’ll keep an eye on the events calendar. Hope to make it to a few in 2024.

I wanted to share a bit of a personal note just on the meaning of this place…

We moved down to STL from Chicago in winter of 2020. Not the best time to move to a new city and make new friends… By the time I joined the Refuge to play in a video game golf league (and while it’s awesome, speaks to my state of mind at the time), I was in a pretty dark place. But I truly felt welcomed here.

Playing golf with you all meant a tremendous amount to me. I had always enjoyed golf but struggled with the country club culture and negative stigma – I never liked that side of the game – and here I found a community of good people who felt similarly. Every time I’d come home from playing with the people in this group (vs. a scramble for work or something), my wife would tell me how she could always tell because I was so purely happy.

I’ve also learned so much from you all about the game, and that has deepened my enjoyment. I’ve learned why blades are so much fun (but aren’t for everyone and that’s ok), and I’ve tipped my toe into GCA enough that I have a greater appreciation of what makes a course fun vs. challenging.

I’m not sure yet if I’ll be ā€œleavingā€ the Roost or if I’ll just keep my CGC badge and will join some Chicago events, but I’ll keep in touch.

I wanted to give a couple shoutouts too…

@acochran32, @DivotPatterns, @IlliniGolferHack, @TheEyeTest, @Jake_skud, @Rthompki, Fugaizi, thank you for being great hangs and enjoyable people to play golf with. The level of kindness and acceptance in this community is really uncommon in the world and I truly appreciate you all.

@Nickygifts, thank you for showing me why Normandie may be the most provocative golf course I’ve ever played…I can’t wait to go back there to see the renovation. And while we got our asses handed to us, our match against Marz and PapaTeeps was so much fun.

@justmuckit, I’m not sure we can ever play golf again if it’s not 20+ mph. Between Gateway and Bandon, I frankly have zero memories of us playing without getting blown over. That Sheep round was a special one…

@chrismarz , thank you for – what will hopefully be – a set of blades I’m playing for years…I’ve now had 3 separate offers to buy them. One guy on a shuttle in Bandon offered me $1k straight up for them. Weird experience…if you ever want them back though, you got em! Sometimes I feel like I’m walking around with Margot Robbie on my arm and the golf world knows I’m out of my league….

@Jrembold , thank you for being such a positive energy. I have so many positive memories from our Bandon trip that I will be telling anyone who will listen for years to come. I’m already ready to go back…maybe a shoulder season trip this time to cut down on some of the costs. I’ll let you know when we’re back in town too and we can try to grab dinner!

TL; dr, I’m relocating back to Chicago but hope to be back soon. You all are fantastic so please just keep being awesome.

Best,

dfbuzz

Thanks for the kind words, Mr dfbuzz. It was always a treat getting to watch you golf your ball, regardless of whether or not I was on the receiving end of your unflappable play.

I’m hoping you’ll act as our inside man in the Chicago roost.

Wishing you nothing but success.

Sorry but I have to back out of the event next week. I am also moving and we have to go on a house hunting trip. With me and @dfbuzzbeater leaving, the collective Confluence handicap will definitely drop. It has been great playing with you all the past year. Thanks for being so welcoming!

Anyone interested in playing Friday?

Can anyone recommend a plumber in the West County area?

Non-emergency… just looking for a person/small business that can knock out a bunch of small jobs. I don’t DIY things that when they go bad, mean I’m moving in to a hotel for a bit, or I die (plumbing, gas, major electrical… etc)!

I have a guy I’ve used for some semi-major stuff - basement plumbing failed and needed to have the old cast iron dug up and replaced with PVC. He was quick and much cheaper than I was quoted elsewhere.

Shoot me a DM if you’d like his number. I don’t know if he has a listed business, I just call and tell him what I have going on.

Used Kokesh plumbing in Ballwin to fix a few problems and one major issue when we moved into our house in Chesterfield 9 months ago. Would recommend

Mr. The Buzz,

Truly an honor getting to know you on and off the golf course. One of the joys of my year was trudging through bandon with wind gusts the same speed as a high school fastball just trying to hang on.

I wish you nothing but the best and hope I see you again sooner rather than later
