I like those holes and enjoy how three consecutive sub-400 yd par 4s all feel totally different, but I’ve still always thought it’s an awkward finish with the last par 3 being 13. The current 7-9 makes for a more classic finish (although 9 ends up being one of the weaker holes out there simply because it’s stuck between the road and the range).
With Maryvale, which did have the same basic routing, the nines were flipped and that’s how GCU was sequenced when Fought did the renovation. I played there with a GCA group shortly after it ropened that included Fought and he did a post-round presentation about all the work. They switched the nines to the current configuration almost right away “for pace of play reasons,” which I’ve never totally understood given that #2 is a long, difficult par 3 and there’s always a traffic jam on that tee box. Of course #11 is also a difficult (and semi blind) par 3 so you’d probably have the same issues there. Maybe someone didn’t like the idea of a par 5 to start, especially one that is semi-reachable. Or maybe they just like having the first tee closer to the clubhouse.

Just in case anyone’s interested I did get a single time at GCU Monday 11/27 at 7:14 if anyone wants to fill the other 3 spots. Wouldn’t mind playing with some nest internet friends

Just took a look and looks like it’s no longer available. All the tee times around it are available still though if you want to move it at all. Unless Roost members grabbed those two spots then disregard.

Well clubs didn’t make it with me to AZ so I killed some time shopping. Who in the world is keeping 2nd swing in business??? Service was fine and friendly but I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. G400’s w/ stock shaft over 300. Beat to hell Scotty’s for 320. Tons of phased out stuff priced the same or higher than new. Crazy. I’ve bought online before and felt like I got a deal but that was wild
