Roll call: Phoenix/Scottsdale

Really like that course. If it wasn’t in Wickenburg I think it would be one I play all the time. Then again, if it weren’t in Wickenburg, it would be twice as expensive.

@matthew823 and I are targeting 5/15 for final match

Any interest in rounding out the group and maybe another group or two somewhere on that day?

Thinking I’ll just go the SD “meetup” route and just book 2-3 times and fill it FCFS

Will the final be played in the appropriate May region? The 15th & 16th appear to be my only available days to golf that month, so want to make sure I’m still Quota game eligible haha.

I’d be interested, gives me an opportunity to get my May Quota game in and meet some of you.

Honestly didn’t even think about that, but it does make perfect sense…

That being said, I am making an executive decision (zero rhyme or reason) on the region rota for the summer game…we don’t have to pick for the later months just yet, but keep coming with ideas and then we’ll make a decision

May: North Central - course TBD
June: S / SE Valley - course TBD
July: Central - course TBD
August: N / NW Valley - course TBD
September: event / final / meetup / whatever we decide it will be - course TBD

Availability / rates already SUCK…

This works for me.

FWIW I had originally pegged a central course (like GCU or Papago or Aguila) for May thinking that one of those might be cheaper in May when rates are still a bit higher than they will be post-Memorial Day. That’s probably not the case if we’re going to try to book 2-3 times well in advance, so we can probably pick any region/course we want.

Papago pretty open around the 0600 hour but still $108…

Wouldn’t blame any city card holders for trying to wait it out

Anything else for 5/15 is still $$$ or already booked somehow

WKP would be like $140, 7-day resident booking window will be sparse (for $85)
TPC almost made me puke
TS looks to be booked up (or maybe closed for an AM event)

I’m at a loss

GCU has open times starting at 9:30. $79 however. Maybe they would honor city card prices for those who have it? They seem less anal about that than Papago, but I wouldn’t rely on it.

Los Cab (the north region!) has times open starting at 9. $75

Trilogy Vistancia doesn’t have their booking window open out that far yet but it looks like they are running around $80 the prior weekend.

(I cannot believe Legend Trail is $180 in mid-May. Talk about almost puking.)

You’re right that this is a tough, tough scene.

WHAT

Mountain Shadows = $91 with availability around 7

GCU sounds good to me on the 15th

I wonder how often locals book the tee times in advance, cancel a day or two before, and then have someone else in their group call in to book the canceled tee time at the city card rate.

Should I just book 2 times? 3?

Not sure what the game plan is with #s / those with city card

3 is probably the safest bet. Doubt we would fill up the 12 slots, but can set a deadline for everyone to commit and cancel any openings we weren’t able to fill?

It says that PHX City card can book GCU on 4/30 (Friday) at midnight…anybody willing to volunteer their services to grab those times at midnight? It is irrelevant to me as I don’t have the card, so I’m also fine booking now and trying to see if they’d honor city rate day of?

It’s only a 9 day booking window for the City Card, so it would be waiting until 5/6 to try and book for the 15th.

Based on the City Card being $64 for a round this Sunday, I’m cool with paying the potential extra $20 or so if they won’t honor the city rate just to confirm getting a tee time on the 15th.

Just so you don’t think I’m making this up haha

haha that’s weird. That message doesn’t pop up until 5/13 with available to book on 4/29. I wonder if the city card booking window for GCU gets extended in the summer, or it’s just a glitch.

Final verdict?

Book now, or roll the dice and wait til Friday @ midnight?

As an aside to figuring out when we’re going to book these tee times…official Quota Game post:

First, there is still time to sign up, sign up will just close at the end of May

Some general housekeeping with rules n stuff aka ramblings

  1. Quota is the name of the game for each round of the summer (may change things up for the “final”)
  2. Please make every attempt to play with another Refugee each month
  3. To calculate your quota: calculate your course handicap and subtract from 36…that # is your quota for the round
  4. How do you score quota? Quota is essentially modified Stableford with a “# to beat”
  5. Double bogey or worse = 0 / Bogey = 1 / Par = 2 / Birdie = 4 / Eagle = 6 / Albatross = 8 (you can pick up for double+)
  6. Your score is calculated as a +/- of your quota (if your quota is 36 and you get 36 points, your score for the month is “0”)
  7. Let’s do our best to avoid generous gimmies to make it fair for everybody…1 ft tap-ins are one thing, but a 3-4 footer for bogey is another
  8. Send scores in to me via post in this thread with a tag, or you can send via DM (but please do not send me a gross score (ie: 84)…either send me the scorecard to calculate quota score or your calculated quota score)

The course for the month of May is GCU

Let me know if I’ve missed anything

Took a day off work Monday, May 10th and booked a Hot Deal at the Faldo Wildfire course (12:05). I had promo for the hot deal but it was crazy expensive on their website. its $103 at 12:05 still for the hot deal if anyone wants to join
