Not really - we have a Slack Channel for the Low Cal group that is everyone from Santa Barbara to Sand Diego. I will track down a link for you!
@Rob_Roth or @alightpainter can you get this man a link to the Slack?
Heading to Laguna Beach next week. Golf is set at Pelican Hill, but would love recommendations for a nice lunch for two. Staying at the Montage and would like to get off property for one meal. Thanks in advance.
If Javier’s has re opened then that is a possibility. Food is good and the people watching is second to none. Candidates for RHOOC for days.
La Sirena is right next to the Montage in the strip center on the other side of PCH. It’s a local favorite. Casual lunch or dinner. Good beers and margaritas.
Coyote Grill is another South Laguna local favorite.
Others that are Downtown: Nick’s, South of Nick’s, Selanne’s steak house if you want a nicer dinner. Javier’s is in crystal cove. I used to go to the original location growing up but it’s not really my scene anymore.
In Newport, I like CDM restaurant, Louie’s by the bay and we end up at Bandera (Hillstone) a lot for dinner.
Hi all - I’m going to be in the area golfing with a buddy. I’m looking to get the low down on places to avoid booking.
I’m trying to get on Santa Ana CC and Hacienda GC - I am nearly certain Santa Ana CC will work out through my pro, unsure about Hacienda.
If either of those fall through (or if we want to get in 36) - the public golf I’m looking at is Oak Quarry or Black Gold. Those decent and if yes - which should I play?
If there is anything better - please let me know as well!
Santa Ana CC and Haci are both awesome. Hacienda is impossible to walk (FYI). Oak Quarry over Black Gold all day everyday. That said, if you are heading east look into Goose Creek - better than both of OQ and BG.
Proximity also comes into play when trying to do 36 at different LA/OC courses… Santa Ana → Oak Quarry could be tough depending on the day.
If you get on Hacienda, your best close option for 36 would be Industry Hills (not a walking course).
For Santa Ana, Strawberry Farms and Oak Creek would be closest good options (especially on a twilight or daily deals-type rate).
@bmb430 @lbrowne96 this is great - thank you!
@lbrowne96 @bmb430 Turns out Santa Ana CC has something going on and can’t host me. Haven’t heard from Haci yet.
Besides Oak Quarry (gonna play there Friday afternoon) - where should I play?
Hacienda’s head pro is playing the PGA championship, so you might not hear back from him for a few day ahaha
Check out Goose Creek, its a decent track that is always in good shape
If you can do Goose Creek Friday morning, it is great and not far from Oak Quarry.
I should have clarified that we are probably not playing 36. So will do Oak quarry friday afternoon (can’t play in the morning).
Looking for a Sat rec (will play Rustic Canyon sunday morning before heading to airport)
Goose has advanced booking so if you want a guaranteed tee time it is the way to go. Industry Hills (the Ike, not the Babe!) would be another possibility because they book via phone (old school style) 7 days out - just call as soon as they open the Pro Shop.
Basically all the public LA metro courses utilize online booking and the battle with bots is real.
Last one - if you are willing to make the drive then try Soule Park up in Ojai. V fun golf course
Hey all, Nebraskan here coming to San Clemente for a wedding in a couple weeks. If we can’t get a time at the muni anywhere else within 30 minutes worth it? Not really interested in a $100 round or forking it over for Torrey.
The only worthwhile option around the same price is Goat Hill Park in Oceanside. $100 is a straight up bargain green fee in Orange County, especially on a weekend.
Appreciate it and I do not envy you
I had luck setting up a Noteefy cancellation alert a few weeks back as well if plan A falls thru. Loved the course.
