Roll Call: Oklahoma "The Supercell"

The thread hasn’t seen this much action since we first started it and someone called Twin Hills a hidden gem.

I’ve now been fully briefed on the situation. Fine people on both sides…

@Dilly.eats I’m very curious how you came to be a NLU disciple. It’s fine to not like Dornick but to say Rose Creek is even subjectively better doesn’t mesh with why people generally gravitate toward this crowd.

All sarcasm aside, legit Lol-ing at the idea of diversity and golf architecture ending up in the same sentence.

Can you elaborate on that? Genuine curiosity. Why would that disqualify me from liking NLU and the community?

Swap out human trafficking with “not my favorite style of golf course” and you get the gist….

I just want @Dilly.eats to tell @thefriedegg his take, and I want Andy’s reaction on video.

(Tagging Andy but we all know he’ll never see it because he lost his password years ago)

Doesn’t disqualify you. Anyone with $90 is qualified. More like your take doesn’t square up with the #typical NLU connoisseur

Two things can be true: one can respect or appreciate a course like Dornick because of its historical significance while also not have a great playing experience due to course conditioning or routing or whatever reason they may have.

At any rate, it seems to be a polarizing place. Those who love it can’t understand how someone doesn’t enjoy it and those who hate it can’t fathom why people are so eager to go back.

@Dilly.eats gave his opinion on the course—right, wrong, or indifferent.

I hope no one’s actually offended but man if someone enjoys a residential course with a shit ton of ponds over something like Dornick because that suits their preference or their game, what does it matter.

Dudes a good hang and a good golfer who pays his $9 a month to be a part of this community just like everyone else so let’s all just take a deep breath and slow the roll on being the golf course architecture morality police.

With that being said, I’ll recall my email to Battle Creek about hosting the major this year

How easy would it be to get a tee time at Dornick Hills on a Friday afternoon? Asking for a friend.

Last comment I’ll make in here about it, happy to relitigate with anyone in the future. My nlu following came from a broader appreciation for their respect of the game as a whole. Feel like they were the first ones I came across that had the same kind of admiration for the game I did and valued the same kind of things about playing/being a part of the game. I don’t agree with obviously all the architecture takes but feels reductive to say because I like the architecture I do that we’re surprised I wound up in this community. The fact that we get worked up about this to the extent we do is why it’s so cool and why it’s fun as hell to go play golf in a group like this. hope everyone comes and plays in the rose event and at least shits on it to my face lol

I appreciate that perspective. Most here (me chief among them) can certainly be a bit sensitive to any Maxwell slander.

Looking forward to meeting you in person and chopping it up on the merits of various golf courses.

From one Dillon to another,

I respect your opinion on DHCC! We made the conscious decision during our “restoration” to bring the course back to it’s original layout from 1914 so it certainly isn’t going to present itself like a modern construction. I hate that you didn’t find some charming aspects or some interesting holes during your round. Personally, I’ve had several tough rounds out there that have made me question the course too, haha. I hope you come give it another try during peak growing season as the course will play much differently and will allow for a variety of approach shots that just aren’t there in its current dormant state.

I’ve never played Rose Creek so I’ll hold my opinion until further notice! But in the end, the round is usually made with good company, conversation, and the occasional golf shot.

Finally, thank you for creating some engagement on the thread haha!

I definitely want to come check it out when it’s popping! I’m not so close minded as to write it off forever. I mean I played poorly and was cold, ultimately could have found negative things about playing Augusta given the circumstances lol

We’d be glad to have you back anytime, peak conditions are late May thru end of June.

Also, we’ll need to discuss your affinity of the 15th further - beers on me!

There are front left pin days and back right pin days. Back right pin days for the true psychos.

The politeness throughout this discussion - especially since it’s resulted in the offended party offering to host the offending party - ABSOLUTELY settles the “is Oklahoma in the Midwest” debate.

1000% Midwest.

@ReallyFatPat do you wanna share the news with the geography thread, or should I?
