Roll Call: Oklahoma "The Supercell" - The Gusher @ Hillcrest 6/28

Welcome!

I’m having a design firm (my wife) create an official schedule of events including a one pager for our major at Shangri La in June which I’ll post over the weekend so stay tuned for that.

I know @OliveLoaf and @Mish have a WhatsApp chat for a lot of the OKC guys so feel free to participate there.

Reach out with any questions!

Next month will officially kick off our 2024 season. Below are some details of each upcoming event through June. More communication will come as we near each of these but feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Everything should be ready for registration through Unknown Golf, but reach out to me if you encounter any issues. I’m still working on getting the event payments to route through UKG so for now, continue to Venmo me: @joshjohnston17

March 30th – The Club at Forest Ridge
Field size: 16 players

This is going to be a pick your partner 2-man event. Each player’s net score will be multiplied together for a cumulative score. The team with the lowest amount of points at the end of the round wins. Handicaps will wheel off the lowest player in the field. Cost is $25 + green fee. Register through Unknown Golf and send me a message with who your partner will be. Tee times will be at 12:36, 12:45, 12:54, and 1:03.

April 27th – Kickingbird Golf Club
Field size: 24 players

This event will be an individual stableford format. Points breakdown are listed under the event details in Unknown. The cost for this event will be $25 + green fees. Register through Unknown Golf.

May 11th – The Standoff at Sand Creek Station (Newton, KS)
Field size: 12 players (potential to increase to 16)

This event will have multiple 9-hole formats: scramble, shamble, fourball, and scotch foursomes. We’ll be taking on the Great Plains GC of Kansas. The cost of this event is $85 and will include all golf, cart fees, and range balls. Players will not officially be added to the roster until their payment has been received.

June 21 & June 22 – The ‘Nader at Shangri La
Field size: 32 players

This will be an individual net competition played over 36 holes as well as a 4-man stableford TILT game. Please see handout for more details on schedule and cost.

@HaveOuimet @cborger @tberlin @MagicLoogie @ABR No REAL rush here, but can you guys get that $85 venmo working my way in the next week or so? Trying to get the course paid as soon as possible. As a reminder, name won’t be moved off the wait list until the payment is in my hot little hands.

2 spots remaining for this event against @scagnetti and crew.

Hey guys- new nester here. My family and I live in the SW OKC metro.

Love to see the community around here- I’m still getting my bearings in the forum but I’ve already found the local events. Any prereq’s to play in the Supercell events or process to join the roost?

Welcome my man! And no, no pre-reqs. If there are spots available, you’re eligible to play in the event. Holler with any questions.

Any Tulsans planning to ship any clubs soon? These are going in the recycle bin this weekend in anticipation of moving. Sad day.

Hey everyone!

Greetings from Memphis TN . Myself and three buddies will be flying in to OKC in September for the UT vs OU football game. We get in really early on Friday morning and we’re thinking about getting a round in. Any recommendations on which course around OKC we should play? I am a member here at a course in Memphis and could see if they could get us on a course out that way if a private course is the way to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to experiencing a game at OU

In OKC you have a ton of options both private or public.

Private courses I would recommend would be Twin Hills, Quail Creek, Gallardia, or Oklahoma City Country Club.

Public courses Rose Creek, Kickingbird, or Golf Club of Edmond.

If you are going to a game in Norman they also have two really good courses in Jimmie Austin which is the home course of OU and is semi public and Belmar which is Toby Keith’s course but it is private.

Any of those courses I would imagine you will have a great time.

I’d skip rose creek and golf club of Edmond. Not great tracks IMO.

Lincoln Park West is the best muni in OKC. Kickingbird in Edmond is fantastic.

I’d recommend if you have the time to make it work.

I could get behind this. Only played it twice but really enjoyed both rounds.

Depending on your time schedule, the closest (good) public course is Earlywine north. If you absolutely have to play close to the airport, go there. Kickingbird is a great course, but you’ve got a 35-45 minute drive to get there, as it’s north of Okc. Lincoln East is one of my favorites (and probably a lot of other folks’ favorites) and a lot of fun, probably a 25 minute drive across town from the airport.

Jimmie Austin in Norman is fantastic if you’re staying in Norman, and probably the same drive time as kickingbird if you’re not, but make sure you hop on tee times as soon as they open because I bet a lot of SEC folks will do the same thing you’re doing for their first trip.

If all else fails, hit me up and I’ll take you and your buddies on my local 9-hole that’s not a looker but fun to play and easy vibes. If you’re up for night golf Friday night, there’s a par-3 course close to earlywine that has a full bar and lighted 9 holes called JR’s.
