Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) 2026 Major now official

Anyone here played Beckett Ridge before? If so, thoughts?

Playing tomorrow with future brother in law and his dad. I didn’t pick the course and I’m not super picky or architecture snob by any means.

It’s fine. There are some fun holes and some objectively bad ones. Nothing special. Nothing terrible.

What course in the Columbus area was described on SGS where the guy got the “suck it up, buttercup, I love my trees” response from Jack?

Haven’t played there in years. It has swapped ownership a bunch. Seems like they have been “putting money into it” for a decade.

Some fine holes. Some really bad target golf holes through sub-divisions.

Funniest thing I’ve ever seen on a golf course was my partner vaporizing a bay window maybe 20 yards off the tee box on 8 or 17. I only played it as part of a league and cannot keep the front and back 9 straight.

17 par 5.

Last time I played there in looked like a shanty town because of all the tarps and nets set up to protect windows.

It has to be this one. This is the first hole on the Meadows course. What a fucking terrible hole. I don’t think I can get behind the “It’s so bad, it’s good.” Meadows | The Medallion Club

This may have been on the Slack instead of here, but the idea of doing a group barrel pick was floated back in the spring. I was talking to my friend that is in charge of blending at Middle West, and asked him if they do private picks. Gave me the email for the guy in charge of that program (having a guy whose job it is to run the program was not what I expected, so they must do a good amount of them). Here is some of the info I got:

“Thanks for reaching out. We have all three of our core expressions available for Single Barrel selection (Michelone Reserve Wheated Bourbon, Straight Wheat Whiskey, Dark Pumpernickel Rye Whiskey). These are all bottled at Cask Strength (roughly between 124-127 proof).

Typical yield from a barrel at the current age range is between 180-210 bottles with a suggested retail price of $79.99.”

My friend said they have some barrels of their regular bourbon that are getting to the age where they may have some available for barrel picks as well, but he can’t promise when they’ll be added to the program yet. They did also offer to do a sampling of some of their previous barrel picks to get an idea of what we would want, too.

I’m sure we could find some places that might do one for a little cheaper, but I think the quality and convenience we could get there makes it a very fair price. If it’s something we had enough interest in, we could start the process of arranging some of it. Obviously with the final cost being in the ballpark of 16 grand, we’d need a good amount of commitments, but I think if we open it to non Ohio refuge members, getting 150-180 people may not actually be that difficult. I think a cool thing to do would be having some of the bigger roosts take turns doing a barrel pick at a small-ish distiller in their state, and we end up with a cool series of bottles hand picked by the members here

I love this idea Matt. Count me in for whatever we get into.

In.

Thanks for the update! Do they not offer half barrels? That seems a little surprising for a relatively small distillery. New Riff even offers down to quarter barrels.

I’d say I’m a hard maybe depending on which product you choose. I’ve heard a lot of good things about their Dark Pumpernickel Rye and the limited edition finished variants, but don’t know much about their other offerings.

Same here. I’d be in for one of the wheated ones but not the pumpernickel rye

Looking forward to Saturday!

Not to turn this into a soccer discussion, but I was thrilled to see what your Dayton Flyers did to #1 WVU this week. We (Marshall) play WVU on 11/5 in Huntington. It will likely be standing room only, and possibly a top 10 matchup.

Biggest win in Dayton Flyers MSOC history. I didn’t head down there but I hope that Lowes St was drowning in Natty Lights over the win.
