I’m all in on something other than what we have now
i know @dfresh285 doing social media is genuinely one of the best things i’ve ever had someone step up and help with.
Granting access to a lot of people for the UKG events has been awesome
someone stepping up to do something as simple as a hat order was great and something i wish i was better at helping with. we’ve got a great logo but we don’t have someone who can dedicate a shit load of time to order/pay for/collect/ship a ton of merch
Someone helping with points this year will be awesome
I struggle a lot mentally (#mentalhealth) with trying to deliver a product to everyone that I personally think is worthy of what you all deserve and something that I’m proud of without
A) Genuinely spending thousands of dollars
B) Killing my home life
C) Ruining my ability to actually enjoy doing this
Maybe I don’t need to clarify this, but I will anyway: whatever your reason is for not being able to make it, there’s no ill will or grudge or anything else over it. Obviously we know everyone has a lot more important stuff going on than this, but if we don’t get feedback on why participation is dropping, then we can’t figure out if there’s anything that can be changed to help get it back up.
I really enjoy going to these things, and meeting you guys, so I’d like to see us figure out a way to get more people involved. Being a seasonal golf roost, and a very spread out one at that, poses some unique challenges for all of us, be it planning or participating, so it’s good to chime in to help out Joe/New Captain
I appreciate you saying something and calling it out. We’re never going to get 100% participation but getting increased participation would be good.
I’ve played 5 rounds in Ohio in 2024. 2 of them have been with some of you, and damn enjoyable if I do say so myself (even if you iced me getting that sandwich).
Every roost isn’t going to have the same vibe. It seems like OATW’s vibe might not big events? I know personally, the bigger the event the less likely I am to play in it. It’s just my personality. I would be all in on smaller 3-4 group outings once a month within an hour and a half of my house. For example, @pjsutherland 's half-set outing.
I did have a good chuckle looking at my scorecard the other day. 52/67!! One hole over double on the front, and I think one hole under double on the back
So out of curiosity, how does the findlay event participation number compare to other roost major participation? I know % of membership is going to look bad for us, but in terms of just the amount of people teeing off are we high, low, or avg?
I’d say we are average, the newer roosts struggle to get to 25 but some of the REALLY active roosts get 50-75 with people traveling from all over Gods creation.
I think you meant to tag @vwhitehead4417 instead of me, although I do love half sets (played 7-8 clubs exclusively for a few years) and wish I could play in that event!
Regional Example on the high end: The Extinction has 75ish attendees, with more than a few of us going down for it.
For whatever it’s worth (I know everyone is different so not judging at all just sharing my experience), I am the same way. Normally not a fan of trying to meet new people, especially when it comes to golf because I can really suck at times and get very self conscious, which causes my golf game to spiral even worse. I signed up for the Refuge about a year ago, but didn’t post or ever really lurk until this winter. I hesitantly signed up for the RBR after my real life friend @cussingmussel convinced me to. I had a blast and I’m very glad I went. Everyone was super nice and welcoming. I signed up for this event on my own because @cussingmussel can’t go. Was nervous prior to the RBR to do something outside of my comfort zone like go to an event not really knowing anyone, but after the RBR and playing a match with @ThuggishJingoism24 I’m glad I’m starting to #getinvolved. The large group of strangers was way less overwhelming than I had built up in my head.
