Roll Call: North Carolina

Cross posting this here in case anyone is unable to be at this weekend’s meetup in Charlotte, and therefore have stayed away from that thread.

There is a small outing related to the weekend Friday morning at Fort Mill in SC. We currently have 7 of 12 spots filled. If anyone can get out, even (or especially) if you can’t make it out for Saturday, let me know. Additionally, there is stuff Friday PM and Sunday morning that weren’t related to the cap on stuff for Saturday. Hit up the Charlotte meetup thread for more details.

For those in New Hanover County and Brunswick county. Spoke to a city official in Wilmington and they have estimated about 150 cases of COVID so far with more coming. Be safe y’all.

seeing how the entire state of of NC had tested less than 100 people as of yesterday afternoon, i think that is a pretty aggressive number

“Estimated”

I’d venture a guess that 150 cases is not an aggressive number – we’ve just been told numbers that are far too conservative up til this point.

They’re looking at it as that many people have come in to hospitals and doctors with the proper symptoms but have not been able to be tested yet. The local college basketball team is now under quarantine after playing a game where the referee has now tested positive.

@DMBGoJackets @Fluff You guies out at BP often? My old stomping grounds growing up and back in area nowadays.

i saw the ref at the CAA tourney had tested positive…and people wanted the games to go on without fans

Yup and it just happened to be the game with UNCW - where I live. Terrific.

bro, at this point anyone expecting this won’t impact them in any way is living under a lie. You may not get sick, but its gonna affect all of us eventually in some manner of disrupting everyday life.

I go out there fairly often since I live only about 10 minutes away. Such a great complex, can’t beat the value

I am a lawyer and court is closed for 30 days, people are staying home and the courses wide open! Time to work on my game! Every COVID cloud has a silver lining! (I hope)

I got 18 in saturday, may try today

Figured all you folks may find what information I have useful given the current situation out there. First, tomorrow will mark the first outright course closure within my particular sphere of influence. UNC threw down the gauntlet and has mandated that Finley close starting tomorrow and remain that way through the end of the month. Talked to the Lonnie Poole guys tonight, and they are still open. However, I suspect that may not remain the case.

The good news is that everyone else is still open as far as I’ve heard. I’m going to spend the better part of tomorrow AM making calls to check in, but my suspicion will be that everyone is going to do whatever they can to stay open. We are doing whatever we can to facilitate that.

I know that a few facilities, namely Del’s courses in Charlotte (Sifford, Jones, etc.) for starters, are going exclusively to prepaid tee times so that staff will not have to work the shop and come into close contact with anyone. They will likely have a starter checking people in. Everyone also is taking pretty drastic measures to disinfect carts, benches, ball washers, etc. to keep people safe.

With all of this being said, the point of my post is that the vast majority of our local courses in NC are OPEN. It is no secret that running a golf operation is tough enough as it is, and this global crisis isn’t making it any easier. If you have it in you to play any extra golf while this is going on, I know for a fact our courses would love to have you. They are doing everything they can to ensure a safe environment for players. See y’all on the links

Probably the course I played the most since I’ve moved to Greensboro 7 years ago. Although, now that the cardinal is Semi-Private, I’m splitting rounds there as I know a couple members and the fee is pretty unbeatable.

Played there this past weekend, the greens are punched and sanded, but I par’d #12 (for those not in the know, Pete Dye’s self proclaimed “hardest Par 3 he’s ever designed”) for the first time! Flushed a 7i from 162 and appropriately two putted. Woo!

I first played the Cardinal in the fall of 1978 when it was very very new. Guilford College had a fall tourney there. It was the hardest golf course I had ever played. The first hole (I don’t know if it is no 1 now or not) was a par four bordering the driving range. You had to hit it up into the range to run it down into the fairway or you went in the creek. The first par three had no grass on it. Some guy figured out how to play it- he made ace. I worked and worked. Shot 97 the first day. Went out the next day and more of the same. Made a twisting 3.5 footer on the last hole for 102! ( Might have been 96-103) Shot 199 for two days. WTF! Had I known I would have missed and made for an even 200. That probably wouldn’t have worked though! Played it one time a year later while in law school and shot 84.Guess I got a lot better in a year. Place was impossible. For years the club champion would shoot about 77 per round for three days. 225 would win in a walk.

Not only is Wildwood Green open, but they are offering a free Corona and a pump of hand sanitizer at check in! No joke…

Great to hear that most places are open and hopefully will remain so through all of this.

Might have been mentioned in here but unable to find it. Anybody know of a trusted club builder in Charlotte area? Have to get some new ferrules on a few clubs and don’t want to ship them off somewhere to get it done.

I use Karl at Golf etc. out in Monroe.

Is $20/per club reasonable price?
