FYI the Triad is very full and actually awful to live in
If anyone wants to come see just how awful the Triad area is, I have 2 spots at Cardinal by Pete Dye on Sat 4/18, 8:30am. $60 guest rate. It was already really firm last weekend, and with no rain in the forecast it should be extra crispy
Has anyone here played bear trail in jacksonville/lejeune? When I was stationed there I played basically on a daily basis. Easily clocked 250+ rounds in 3 years at that spot alone. I have since moved away and that course was so random and isolated I wouldnāt be surprised if I dreamt the whole thing. Have not heard of it since.
Unsolicited power rankings of courses in the vicinity of Camp Lejeune (not allowed to say Muni, which is always #1 despite the drive if youāre in Onslow or Pender County):
- North Shore Sneads Ferry
- Paradise Point Gold
- Bear Trail
- Castle Bay

. - Old Pointe
- Paradise Point Scarlet
Good Morning @dbart. I have played Bear Trail numerous times but it has been a couple of years since the last time. I have always enjoyed it despite it being in the middle of nowhere lol. Easily one of the best draining golf courses I have ever experienced. Played it one time, the day after a tropical storm dropped 8-10" of rain and there were no CPO holes lol. We also had rain prior to that which made it even crazier. I called to check on tee time as I figured they would be closedā¦nope, business as usual lol.
I have played BT, CB and OP along with the MUNI. I am not sure if I like BT over CB but its close. Been a while since I have seen either. If you are ever back this way hit me up and will play.
Also, thank you for your service!
I definitely will. Went back this February to see some friends and played North Shore for old time sake. Made me realize I need to make it a point to get back every spring. The LGA ā ILM direct is clutch for these purposes.
Looking for some input on Outer Banks OBX golf. I have played Carolina Club, Kilmarlic and Nags Head Golf Links in the past.
Any input on The Pointe Golf Club, Sea Scape Golf Links or Duck Woods Golf Club?
The Point is very short, buddy of mine loves playing there but it is incredibly short.
I plan Duck Woods whenever I am down there, very much enjoy it.
Kilmarlic is my favorite, we typically play Duck Woods and Currituck Club whenever we are down there.
Iām down there in two weeks and plan on playing:
- Duck Woods
- Currituck Club
- Nags Head Golf LInks (havenāt played yet, looking forward to it)
Does anyone have a real estate agent in the pinehurst area that they trust that they could put me in touch with?
Oh yes I do. The best. To the DMs.
Iām hoping I need this information in the future. Not quite there.
Hey all - anyone here in the Asheville area? Likely moving there soon and wanted to get a feel for the golf in the area. Seems like an ok selection of courses but specifically wondering about places to practice/driving ranges with grass tees
What part of the area are you going to be in?
Still finalizing but likely west Asheville or south slope
So West Asheville is a bit of a dead zone for golf. I grew up in South Asheville and dipped into Hendersonville area for a good bit of golf as a kid.
Public Courses near West Asheville:
Muni (No Range)
Reems Creek (Range)
Chestnut Mountain (No Range)
Broadmoor is further south. Next to the airport and can see planes landing and taking off the entire time. They were completely destroyed by Helene but are about to reopen the course for public play in a few weeks. Range is open and is now a TopTracer range. Theyāve put of a lot of effort and energy into getting this course back open and I canāt wait to get back up there and check out the new layout and facilities.
Black Mountain is easy enough to get to. Home of the 747 yard par 6. Only 9 holes have reopened since the storm.
There is a driving range called Highwater Golf going in near the Muni and opening this summer at some point.
There is an indoor simulator option in the River Arts District called Ace and Eagle as well.
Weāve got 3 guest spots available at Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro this weekend, Saturday 6/27, 2:10pm. Itās our roost regional, but we have the space for anyone who just want to come have a good time. The three spots are with me, and the accompanied guest rate is $60 including a cart. My plan is to be the pace setter group for the matches, so pace of play will be good.
Someone talk me out of (or into) driving 2.5 hours each way to play Tobacco Road on Vacation.
GFās family beach house is in Oak Island and usually try to play three times down there in our week there. Usually have to drive about an hour for anything good, which is no problem, but Iāve always wanted to play TR. Doing a bit of a road trip to visit family around NC and unfortunately driving right past it (as well as Pine hurst and Tot Hill Farm on the way down but wonāt be able to stop on the way. From the house the drive is like 2.5 hours one-way. There are early am tee times next Wednesday and Iām very tempted. Should I be a sicko and do it or just keep it a little more local drive down to Caledonia/True Blue for Strantz experience. Will be there 7/5-7/12.
Looking to play Rivers Edge, and or Tidewater as well. (I work for a century course in CT so I think Iām getting on at either Heritage or Legends also)
(Fun Fact, P has our course record)
I played True Blue and Caledonia this past weekend, True Blue was in awesome shape, Caledonia was not. Caledonia was freshly punched (small tines on greens but very noticeable, large on tee boxes and elsewhere) and had several tee boxes under repair. I havenāt played Tobacco Road recently but you have about an hour to True Blue, versus 2.5 to Tobacco Road? Iād probably play True Blue
appreciate the intel!
actually I was way off, oak island is like 2 hours from True Blue lol, so that might be far enough that I would choose to go to TR instead if youāre willing to make it an all day affair
Itās a super fun course. It sounds like itās way up your bucket list. If you donāt mind the early drive it sounds like youāll be back to the beach way before dinner. Iāll be the little devil saying go for it.
