Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

Welcome @BruceyLucy

What’s your favorite course in the west metro? Favorite pizza spot in the west metro?

Favorite course on the west side is Windsong. And favorite pizza is Joey Novas.

The level of first round forfeits I’m seeing are disappointing. I would expect this from people in Wisconsin or Iowa, but not the MN contingent

Sounds great @Billy_Baroo @Clark_Griswold. and you guessed correctly. Chaska and Pioneer. Deer Run and Stonebrooke as well.

In fairness we had some pretty fucking terrible weather for like half of April. Still, for shame

You leave us the hell out of this. We’re playing host to the Ope’n and my dumb ass from Wisconsin accidentally came up with that name.

Iowa is always fair game.

@Clark_Griswold @Battisstatus love Joey Nova’s.

Yeah seriously, what the hell people? Couldn’t find time in a month for a round of golf? Hell some people are forfeiting because they’re not going to be in the state for another two months?

That’s some bullshit.

Woof.

My opponent and I managed to drive combined four hours and 20 minutes to pull off our first round match. On a 36 degree day. In April. In Glenwood, MN.

I just couldn’t, in good conscience, ask @DuckDuckGreyDuckHook to play me after completely blanking on the tee time. It was my failure, and so I forfeit.

Flight is officially booked. I will be playing Keller the morning of the 14th if anyone would like to join!

Anyone here done a golf trip to Pinehurst area and Scottsdale areas? I’ve gotten the go ahead to plan a 4 day trip and with flight prices think these are two of the better options. I have been and played Scottsdale, TPC like 20 yrs ago though. Also must have good taprooms as I love beer also, sometimes both at once.
If I picked Pinehurst I for sure want Tobacco Road, Mid Pines. #2 and 4 seems so expensive but it would be probably the only time I’d ever play them.

@tbruhsch and I had a great time out at Olympic today. I was fortunate to come out on top - looking forward to round 2!

Went to Pinehurst about a month ago before peak season. Looking at pics I wish we would have waited until now but that is beside the point. We played TR, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, #1, #9, and the Cradle. Loved every bit of it minus the weather. You will have a great time there it is golf heaven! Make sure to sit and relax at the Pinehurst clubhouse and watch people come in on 18. Tobacco Road just take it in. It’s not for everyone, but every hole you are in awe.

Used to live in Scottsdale and it’s a highly underrated food/drink city, so that box is checked.

For golf, here’s what I’d do if I had a four day trip:

  • We Ko Pa (Saguaro)
  • Rancho Manana - eat at El Encanto in Cave Creek afterwards
  • Sunridge Canyon
  • Troon North (Monument)
  • Eagle Mountain if you’re entertaining the idea of a 36-hole day.
  • Silverado is the honorable mention, muni, “I’m tired of losing golf balls in desert golf” option.

Food:

  • Zipps is the best sports bar in America. There’s a ton of them in the Valley.
  • Glai Baan is awesome Thai food.
  • OHSO is a great breakfast spot with an elite patio setup. I’d recommend the brewery in Paradise Valley.
  • Second Story is an upscale-ish cocktail bar in Old Town Scottsdale. Best old fashioned I’ve ever had.
  • AZ88 is a weird but awesome spot in Old Town for drinks and American food.

If you end up pulling the trigger and want more recs, let me know.

@camilo had complete control of his golf ball in the wind at Stoneridge and took me down 5&4. The mans a killer. AS heading to 7 and he goes birdie/birdie/par, including a downhill 25fter when I have 10ft my own bird and missed.

Live look walking off 9 after riding the lightening a bit too long.:

Great walk out there with @charvey and @freesypop. Felt good to be out in shorts again.

I’m convinced that Stoneridge is the true roulette wheel of match play courses.

I did Pinehurst about 4-5 years back and can’t wait to go back. Place has such a great vibe and incredible golf. We played Dormie Club, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, and Tobacco Road. Didn’t do any of the Pinehurst resort courses, but I still genuinely feel like we got the experience. Dormie is now private, but Southern Pines looks like it’s going to be puuuuuure after the renovation. If you’re willing to drop the coin, stay on site and do #2 and #4. Haven’t played them, but they look unreal. If I were going back and wasn’t planning on staying at the main resort, I’d probably try to do two days of 36 at Pine Needles-Mid Pines. The back 9 at Mid Pines has all the southern golf vibes you can handle!

I was in Scottsdale at the beginning of March. I enjoyed Papago and McDowell Mountain from a golf course perspective and we went to a handful of breweries in Fate Brewing, Four Peaks and Huss Brewing.

I was down there a couple of years back and played Camelback Golf Club as well as Talking Stick. I know people have opinions on Talking Stick but when you’re from Minnesota and there’s snow on the ground, I enjoyed my time there.
