Honestly i am not sure. I have just read alot about the wire during the rewatches. It might be from a court hearing or from the dvd spin off The Avon Barksdale story which i just discovered last night and now i need to watch it.

Did you know Cheese was Randy biological dad, and Prop joe was his grandfather…

Woah woah woah. There’s some Game of Thrones family tree stuff going on here. Where did you read all of this stuff? And now seems like a great time to start a rewatch of The Wire.

I’ve heard that, but one thing I learned listening to Way Down in the Hole is that the first time we meet Cheese his last name is “Flagstaff” or something just a bit different than Wagstaff. Then they changed it to match Randy

Really? What Episode is the first time his last name is mentioned? (or even the episode of way down in the hole)

This seems a little disappointing for the the wire to force that…

@ajtwenty1 Just online on different websites, surprisingly there is not a good comprehensive source for everything wire related. Great time to rewatch the wire, though its a bit touchy at times with everything going on. (read as nonpolitical->) We started in May before George Floyd and after it was tough to know a lot of this stuff is still super applicable and relevant in today society. Amazing we are still fighting the same issues 20 years later. I think everyone should watch the wire, it not so much TV but education.

Its the first time we see his picture on the board in season 2. The name under the picture is Melvin “Cheese” Flagstaff. No one ever says it so I guess you could pass it off as an error by the cops who put it up on the board. From some random website: " Calvin “Cheese” Wagstaff (named “Melvin Flagstaff” during Season 2)"
I’ve seen in my searches this morning that even Simon has said that Cheese is Randy’s dad, so it was just a mishap. Interesting they just didn’t make Randy’s last name Flagstaff though

Great stuff here.

Interestingly no masks in either place. A little too on the nose.

In regard to our Fourball meet up next week,
If I don’t have 12 people registered by tomorrow, I am going to open things up to some non-refugees.

We currently have 9 people, with a max of 16.

I know @kirkeide1 wants to see how high his golf ball can bounce off that cold ground!

I have been looking intently at this, just not sure if it’s going to work or not. I can put my name down but I may have to back out :grimacing:

Did someone say good ole MIAC action? I see @Lazstradamus was a Gustie do we have any Johnnies in this contingent?

Well, its clear The Avon Barksdale Story will take up my next free 90 mins. Had no idea this existed. For those that dont know the real Avon Barksdale also plays the church deacon in seasons 3-5.

Is it streaming any where?

Just found it on youtube. Doing a deeper dive is kind of interesting though. It looks like the guy in the documentry might just be trying to get some fame out of it. Simon says it isnt really him.

The deacon I was talking about is actually a different guy named Melvin Williams who they loosely based Barksdale on. I bet all of it is true in some sense. Im sure Simon pulled on everything he had learned about and heard from his time as a reporter.

Yea SImon has said that the Avon in the show is an combination of a few different people, including the Deacon.

Booked at 240 at Highland on Saturday. 2 spots still open (have to book yourself).

It’s implied that Cheese is Randy’s dad since they have the same surname, although I’m not sure it’s ever explicitly stated at any time.

That being said, Prop Joe is Cheese’s uncle, so that would just make him Randy’s great uncle, not grandfather.
