Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

I liked Preserve more than Pines when I played them both last summer. The DJ ‘tight piece of property’ gif is very apt. Well conditioned, but shortish. I played 36 and hit like 4 drivers. I think it’s a solid course and would recommend it.

Lovely day and walk. I thought we were in for a LOOOOOONG day after both of their tee shots. I was dead wrong. They couldn’t have been better playing partners. They absolutely flew around the course despite decidedly lacking pop.

My only criticism was that I was genuinely hoping for one of their compliments to be ‘that’s a peach hun’. Alas. Other than that no complaints (my inability to get off the tee notwithstanding).

Shoutout to everyone who has mentioned Southern Hills in the last week or two in this thread. Late decisions and mid week planning for Saturday morning with a couple buddies lead to practically zero options, but Southern Hills jumped to mind after reading about it here and they had a few spots open. Hadn’t been out there before, but loved the course. Plenty of variety between holes and I really enjoyed the greens. Great value on top of it all; will be back for sure.

4-6 at baker is really solid. 4-6 at Olympic is a nice mix (6 is a GD beast). 15-18 at Deer Run is a really fun finish. I’ve only played it once, but I really liked 4-6 at Midland.

13, 14 and 15 at Northland cannot be beat IMO. 3 fantastic par 4s in a row.

18 is spectacular!

Living in Apple valley starting on Wed for two weeks. Playing Willingers but unfamiliar with any other southern metro courses. You guys have some recommendations?

For the value to walk a full 18 I have a hard time thinking of a place better than Southern Hills in the south metro. Greens are wonderful and it’s a good layout.

Legends GC in Prior Lake is a great course, can be a little spendy at peak rates though. I’d also recommend Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

Has anyone made it down to The Jewel this year?

I always enjoy it, but try to plan a day of 36 if I’m going to make the effort to get there. The MGA emails promoting $85(weekday)/$95(weekend) for 36 with a cart has me thinking more about it.

If heading down to Willingers area I’d also recommend Northfield Golf Club. Semi-private but reasonable rates to play and course was in great shape when I played last week.

I went a little over a month ago and it was in great shape then. At the time, the fescue was down a little so it didn’t play as narrow as usual which was nice, but man does it get tough in some spots on the back 9. One of my favorites in MN.

I second this, legends is my favorite south of the cities.

Great to know @PaaSco. I have to believe it’s in great shape. Hard not to be, when it doesn’t get quite as much play as many of the higher end metro courses.

warning This is going to sound dumb BUT

I personally have never played Crystal Lake in Lakeville, but my grandparents live on the course, and it looked to be in very good shape when I stopped by yesterday for Fathers Day.

(I don’t get down to Lakeville much and when I do it’s with my family to visit my grandparents which is why I haven’t played there. I understand any judgement that comes my way.)

Just another reason to “Shrink the Game”

Crystal Lake is a decent course and not a terrible price if you’re walking. One or two holes on the back are too soggy, but a fair track besides that. The issue I had, after two summers of buying their membership, is getting a tee time.

Guess that doesn’t matter anymore though since every single course is packed this summer!
