Roll Call: Minnesota Part 2 - SIM MEETUP post 9471

No, umbrella holder attachment with mine. Mine is the very first model, I think I preordered it.

Slow but not as much bump as I was expecting.

If you come during the week, about 10 minutes. Weekends are difficult just because it’s busy and we have a ton of other repair work to be done

Folk, first time long time

I am back to the age old spiritual question should I join a private club, i live near Rochester so would have somerby and rgcc as my options. Got pricing this morning, it’s not ridiculous but it’s something…. Would welcome any and all input, suggestions

I’d say do it if you don’t expect to make it economically make sense. Don’t track your rounds, number of times using X at the club, etc. While it’s good to know that the sticker price isn’t shocking, you’re paying for private golf in a state with 5-6 months of snow.

I made my decision for a lot of reasons, namely wanting:

  • ease of booking tee times
  • a higher level of course conditioning
  • flexibility to golf 3-18 holes
  • a place to practice year round

I looked past 2 clubs within a mile of my house to join one that I felt was a better fit.

I signed up for a club about a year before I became active on the Refuge and originally, an intention of going private was to have a smaller group of golfers to form a group with, having moved to MN just a year prior. However with my work schedule and doing most of my golfing during the week, I’d say it’s still a challenge to meet new people when you can’t consistently play on weekends. Had I had the Refuge a year earlier, it might have delayed me joining a club, but still think I’d have reached the same conclusion.

What Dr Mollo said

The answer is yes. Haven’t played Somerby but RG&CC has the family amenities, a solid Tillinghast/Doak and a fantastic practice space. I think either option is solid and assuming you’re not kneecapping yourself financially by joining you can’t go wrong

I don’t have a million MN courses under my belt, but RGCC is probably my favorite that I’ve played.

Tuesday looks great, anyone interested in playing around 4 or 4:30? Southern Hills has a bunch of tee times open.

I have a friend at Somerby and he has loved it thus far. They are having a membership push to try and grow their numbers, so some of ā€˜ease’ of finding tee times may be more challenging in the future, but they also have a bunch of amenities for the whole family and year-round use. I went private for many of the reasons stated by others above, and I’d be hard pressed to go back.

I have a 5:12 on Silver at Emerald Greens Tuesday, the 3 other spots are open on their tee sheet if anyone wants to grab them. $17 to walk, and sun doesn’t set until 8:15 so should be able to get a good amount of golf in.

Anyone had any luck with Keller’s new tee time system? (Used to to be ezlinksgolf now teeitup) Was hoping to grab a tee time next weekend but they system wont filter to show any times available

My guess is they’ve got the same deal as past years where they release weekend tee times the Monday or Tuesday night before.

I tried looking today as well and I couldn’t get any day to load, I’m guessing they are just closed for the next couple days and then as @kirkeide1 said the weekend doesn’t open up until Monday and Tuesday for Saturday and Sunday.
