I have several announcements for everyone today, so please bear with me.
First: NSS5 t-shirt orders close this Friday, 8/23 and we still need a few to make the minimum! Remember to Venmo me $39 for the shirt. (@nickmoryn)
Second: We have a unique opportunity with Titleist that requires quick action - as has been teased/rumored, we are rolling out a new Roost logo at the NSS. Our friends at Acushnet have offered us custom logo balls at $65/dz featuring this new logo. We need to submit the bulk order - you guessed it - this Friday, 8/23 with a minimum of 6 dozen per model. They are going to ship the balls directly to Keller for the NSS and I will pay Keller, so I need anyone interested to pay me directly (Venmo) $65 / dozen and indicate the ball they want. Theyāre only offering ProV1, ProV1x, and -ProV1x (left dash) for this go around. Sign up here:
Third (and final): WE WANT YOU to play in the North Star Shootout. As of this writing, only 30 of the 60 names on the Unofficial Spreadsheet are signed up in Unknown Golf. Frankly, weāre about half way to where we want to be with signups with only 3 weeks to go. Donāt wait, sign up now. Tell all your friends.
As a reminder, $25 due to me (again, Venmo, @nickmoryn) to hold your spot, final payment will be due to Keller and dependent on numbers. Letās get to 72 and have ourselves a day.
Edit: I lied - thereās one more thing: Letās get the raffle going in earnest. Only 3 of us have donated as of this post and if thereās one thing I know about this community, itās that we raise a shit ton of money for charity. The last two years we did over $3,000 in the raffle, and weāre sitting at $125 right now. Donate by going to childrenscancer.org and send me the screenshot of your receipt.
There are 2 bad (maybe 3) overgrown holes but I have it on good authority that they have a long term goal to get those holes back. The rest of the course is amazing! - great family business and a proper course
Itās not the easiest but can be done. Itās the best course in that area pretty easily. Front nine is a harder walk.
I have not played Landmand but from the pictures I could see it having similar expansive views that landmand does but the course itself is not that wide or large. Can actually get pretty narrow when itās windy. The greens have some slopes that are interesting but not close to the level of Landmand. Just get past 8 9 and 10 and the rest of the course is really good.
Played both within 7 days of each other earlier this year. I donāt hate this take but having a tough time getting fully on board. Some of the same dramatic elevation changes though, but some holes at Wildflower⦠no thanks
After walking Landmand back-to-back days, Iād say anywhere is walkable BUT I donāt remember seeing a single walker the few times Iāve been out at Wildflower.
Play around the area often (will be hosting an event at Thumper on the 26th), and would echo mr @kirkeide1 here, dealerās choice really.
Thumper is usually in the best condition but I find the greens mundane. Layout is fun though and really beats the bomb and gouge out of you if youāre a recovering junkie like myself. Fairways are a necessity there. Some people ride hard for this course.
Balmoral is fine. Is a little easier, more lakesy vibe all around. Fun. Nobody rides hard for this course.
If youāre going to be heading out of Ottertail lake proper, just go to Wildflower. Perham and DCC are good tracks but not nearly as memorable as WF.
