Count me in
Hey MN folks. I have a buddy headed to Minneapolis this weekend for a wedding and he is looking to squeeze one round in and asked for some local input from the refuge.
I believe he is staying somewhere in the central part of the city(the most detail I got from him). He will presumably have to uber to & from the course for what itâs worth so ~30 mins driving is probably a good range for distance.
Curious which courses you would recommend/I should direct him towards that he could get out as a single saturday morning? He is a good player so looking for something of championship length that is at least architecturally stimulating or a course youâd seek out for a fun round/good test.
Cheers
While I wouldnât call it a âchampionshipâ test, I think the general recommendation for an in-metro, architecturally cool course is Keller Golf Course, which is just north east of the city. Finding a tee time there is pretty difficult, but if you can get it, itâs what I think most people would recommend.
A bit farther out is Stoneridge, which is a cool course and absolutely more of a test, but itâs not the easiest to get to.
There are a few other courses, Chaska Town Club (while not my favorite) just hosted the stroke play for the US Am, and isnât too far away, but other then that Iâm not sure what I would recommend that is worth the value for something that is both challenging, has some kind of architectural interest, and of course is public.
Braemar is also a decent choice.
Victory Links is usually not too bad to get on, itâs just a bit pricey and you truly need to ride because the routing stinks. BUT, there are some solid holes out there. Itâs where the Monday Q is played for the 3M.
these are great, exactly what I was looking for. appreciate you fellas, hopefully Iâll make it out to play in the twin cities some day too
Final day for NSS5 registration! We are up to 57 players, which is honestly great, but a few more would be even better.
Register here:

Then send $25 to @nickmoryn on Venmo to move off the Pending list.
Itâs gonna be a fantastic day out at Keller - 36 holes of tournament play + all the bonus golf you care to play + carts and vibes for <$200 (final payment due at course).
Charity update - You guys fuckinâ rule, as usual. Weâve sold 278 raffle tickets for a total of $1,390 + $300 in corporate matches, we have 29 ticket buyers and about 30 items up for grabs. We netted $272 on the NSS5 t-shirts, secured 5 hole sponsors for a total of $1,700 (which will go up another $200-500 when the last sponsor has made their donation), and weâre looking at about $680 left after expenses from the registration fees (some of which I may use to offset the cost of the golf, havenât decided yet). All in all, weâre easily going to clear over $4k to Childrenâs Cancer Research, and thatâs before taking into account 50/50 raffle or any direct donations made on-course. Iâll say it again, you guys fuckinâ rule.
Edit: Both registration and Raffle Ticket Sales will close at 4:00 PM tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 6)! The raffle will be held virtually via Meet around 9 PM tomorrow night. Iâll drop a link here for any who want to join the fun.
I am heading to Minneapolis this weekend for the Iowa-Minnesota game. We arrive Friday afternoon and leave Sunday morning. We are staying downtown at one of the Hiltons on Marquette street. Any recommendations on things to do or eat/drink? Weâre up for taking transit or bikes to different areas of the city if needed. I have pinpointed MIA and a few places to eat/drink around there so far.
If there is a different topic this should be posted in, please direct me there. Appreciate any recommendations in advance!
Itâs been a bit but I recommend Stanleyâs NE Bar Room. I love that place.
Lots of options. Personally more of a St Paul guy but in downtown Minneapolis, canât go wrong with the Warehouse District over on Washington. Lots great stuff over there.
After the gopher game, might be worth going to Surly. Maybe not the best brewery but itâs quite the spectacle and youâd be close. Could take the light rail even post game (depending how late it goes)
The Minneapolis bike trail system is pretty solid.
A ride to Surly is pretty cool and you could make a couple stops along the way. There is a bike drop at Surly, so you can easily Uber back as well.
If youâre going to Surly, you may as well check out The Market at Malcolm Yards and OâShaughnessy Distilling.
If youâre staying at the Marquette, they have a nice little hotel bar in the lobby that Iâm fond of. The Hen House is a couple blocks away and does a really solid breakfast. They do a mean bloody mary that may help wash some of the bad taste that is a Kirk Ferentz offensive gameplan out of your mouth on Sunday morning.
Dan Kellyâs is an underrated (in my opinion) spot near the hotel that could be a fun pre-tailgate bar. Their food is solid and their beers are cold.
Tomâs watch bar is a chainy but solid sports bar if youâre trying to watch any other games.
Hope you enjoy your time here! And always remember, itâs a Cyclone State.
@NorthStarUnited shared this on the Discord last week but forgot to put it here. Weâre trying to get a few groups together before the season ends out at the Loop WITH our significant others and/or Young Hitters. In all likelihood, we wonât be able to make something work with everyoneâs schedule, but Iâll do my best. Please fill this out and let me know if you have questions!
For the non-Discord people:
@bignanski and I have a 9:54am at Loggers on Thursday, 9/19 with a couple spots up for grabs.
@NorthStarUnited PUTTER COVER DAY HAS COME
Follow the link below to fill out the form to put your name down. If you want more than one, fill out the form more than once.
Blade covers are $70, Mallet covers are $65.
We are staying at the Marquette so we will check out the hotel bar in the lobby for sure.
Thankfully, I only have about 10 more games moonlighting as a Hawkeye fan. Looking forward to getting past this fandom chapter.
I love that for you. Feel free to come over to team good guy - weâre always looking to bolster the ranks.
But youâre a very bad guy?
Ok ok ok ok
