We will miss you by a few days! We are June 27-30.
Thanks for all the info! We are doing to onsite villas for 3 nights + unlimited golf for $600 per person. Felt like a pretty solid deal given that you can play as much golf as you like. Glad to know there are good restaurants there too. Looking forward to checking it out!
Post frequency is limited for public access (i.e free) accounts. If you #getinvolved and pay for a full nest membership, posting frequency is (effectively) unlimited, as well as providing access to behind the paywall threads, access to events, and a few other odds and ends…
Everywhere downtown GR is at least solid to above solid. Hit up one of the many breweries and have a flight of local beers. If you end up staying downtown plenty of amusing places to sit and watch the scenery until (like me) you realize you’re actually old and would prefer being in bed at 10pm.
Also throw the invite out again a little closer, once people have firmed up their lives elsewhere. I’d bet we’ve got a few guys that would potentially join if they’re not busy otherwise.
Since no one else has said it, 12 of us just got back from Forest Dunes and, while the price tag is a bit higher, enjoyed the absolute bejeezus out of it and would very much recommend. Classy experience from arrival to departure, courses are very different but absolutely fun and interesting, good options for dining on site (and no hard feeling from the staff when we were grilling burgers and being hooligans at 10p in front of our villas). Just a good time all around.
Assuming I get my transportation issues sorted out (a big if at the moment), I’m planning on tacking on an extra round at the end of my Champion Hill trip on June 21-24. I was thinking about Arcadia South the morning of the 24th, but then I got to thinking about what course I actually want to play the most that I haven’t. Belvedere is too far in the wrong direction from Crystal Lake, so I might have settled on The Loop. $185 to hop in with a group of strangers early on a Monday morning is a little daunting, but I think I’ve psyched myself up enough to do it.
So what that means I will probably do is drag my feet in figuring out my transportation, then when I actually am ready to book a tee time, it will be full.
the best part about your first time on the loop is, while walking to your shot, going backwards for 10 or 20 steps looking back at where you just came from, and the ‘holy shit that’s a golf hole’ views
Firm agree. I get a weekend up there yearly to curl and pretty much the whole tournament ends up at talleys by the end of the night…it gets silly and I love it. Well, except for the arms race of burger eating that goes on. One of my buddies set the standing record a couple years back at, I believe, 13 over the span of a weekend. It was fucking agressive.
