Any one ever get an iron fitting at a maple hill facility? Grand Rapids area. I saw a lot of people suggesting/ not suggesting Carl’s.
Imo Maple Hill is the best club fitter in GR area. I got my irons fitted a couple years ago and had a great experience. I got there and warmed up, but as soon as i got into the fitting bay, i got a case of full fledge sh**ks. The guy i was working with tried to coach me through it, but mentally i was a mess. Since I couldnt get any useful data…aside for how far i could carry a hosel rocket…they had me come back for another appointment for free.
I want to go in for a driver fitting this year…but buying a house and paying for a wedding might take priority.
Highly recommend Maple Hill.
Thanks for the info. It is really close so it is hard to pass. The real red flag for me is just the quality of the course, but maybe there is no correlational there. I’ll give it a try and hopefully not hit any hosel rockets as I am someone who lives hosel adjacent.
Oh yea definitely separate the store from the course.
yea MH bread and butter is their fittings and pro shop. The golf course is just sorta “there”.
In my opinion, Maple Hill has one of the best pro shops in the country. I’ve gotten fit for all of my equipment there with absolutely no complaints. I also love that they stock brand new clubs from several yearly releases, so if you’d rather spend $350 on last year’s line of irons than pay $800 for this year’s version, they’ve got 'em, brand new. They include the older versions in your fitting, too, if you want. I went in this Spring and ended up getting fit for Cobra F9 driver, 3 wood, and hybrid. Got them all for less than the price of the newest Cobra driver.
Still no booze…
Glad to hear more good input because I booked the iron fitting before I asked about it
I know it’s a suggestion from a while back, but man blackheath is fun! It was a haul from where I live but I will definitely be back.
Blackheath is hands down my favorite course to play in the area. It suffers from a TON of rounds on the weekends so it can be a slog but the variety of holes, the choices of tees (which vary the difficulty greatly), and the views from several spots where you can see the whole course, make it a ton of fun.
I love blackheath too, I just always leave it thinking how good it would be if they could get it going firm and fast. i would be there weekly if that could happen.
Not sure when this will happen (likely 2021) but wondering if anyone has some ideas of anywhere else to play along this route. Not looking for anything as high profile as Forest Dunes. Trying to make this trip as cheap as possible. Any local knowledge would be welcome. I’m going to try and make some #content out of this trip too
Black Forest is closed I believe. Even so, it’s completely skipable in spite of being a Doak.
Any of the Forest Dunes courses are worth the money and are perfectly on your route. Belvedere rules too. Make sure you walk.
seconded, black forest is gonna need a lot of love before it’s playable again or even able to open
Good to know
if you want something cheap near black forest I would suggest gaylord golf club, a cheap sub 6000 yard walkable course that is always in pristine condition
Anything between Forest Dunes and Detroit? Anything I should be playing near Detroit?
You could go thru Ann Arbor and play the U of M course. It’s an Alister McKenzie and a lot of fun.
Which course are you playing at Marquette Golf Club? The Heritage or Greywalls? I know if you play your cards right check with timberstone because I believe they have a combination deal with Marquette for a stay and play for a round at both courses
I’ll be playing both. I have a free place to stay in Iron Mountain
