Roll Call: Michigan - get out and play!

Gotcha! Enjoy yourself my man. Sounds like you’ve got some great golf planned and the weather should be mostly good.

Hot take in coming: Someone needs to buy Rackham and invest in the place to give it some proper drainage.

696 almost certainly hurts the cause

Oh for sure. They’d be better off doing some massive renovation to the already bastardized front 9 and include a pond for all of the water to drain toward, along with sand capping.

It’s such a fun course, but it’s only fun if it hasn’t rained for a week.

Isn’t there some sort of deed restriction too that forbids it ever being sold to private interests? I feel like kwame kilpatrick tried that.

Is there really? That’s too bad. I lose interest in wanting to go there with how wet it gets.

You’re missing out.

Truth.

I’m not really sure why it says legal limbo when it’s been ruled that it has to remain a golf course. It’s as I recall the Rackham family donated the property with the restriction that it could not be used for anything other than a public golf course.

We’ve had an inch and a half of rain in the last few days. There’s plenty of courses around here that are soaked, including DGC, which surely has much better drainage.

The drainage at Rackham has improved a lot over where it was a few years ago, and it’s rarely an issue in my opinion. I certainly wouldn’t let it stop me from playing there. Now the pace on the other hand…

We had a discussion about this a week or two back in the slack. I have a hair-brained idea to renovate it, make it a 12-hole course, with a short course and large practice facility (same concept as Belmont in Richmond VA). Put retention ponds in the southwest corner where the short course would be to handle drainage.

Craig found out from aerial overlays of the original verses current design that you could actually do a close to original restoration. Handle drainage then maybe.

I played over there a couple weeks ago, and I’ve played there when it’s really wet.

If I could play only the back 9, I would. Don’t like the first 6.

Just saw this…fighting words indeed. Shouldn’t knock it until he tries it!

My wife and I took a spin around the new 3 hole course at the mines yesterday. Gotta say for a short course it’s very pretty with some diabolical green complexes. We only played one loop, but I believe your $9 gets you a full hour of play, probably good enough for 2 times around. Definitely would recommend!

Our tee time at Diamond Springs got cancelled Saturday afternoon due to the weather so after our morning round at Mines we hopped out there. For most of it we were the only 2 out there. Actually kinda lost track of time and were out there for an hour and a half or so. Played about 18 holes. Since we were the only ones, we were playing the tees to different greens to add more variety. It was a blast.
