Roll Call: Michigan - get out and play!

Found an 8-cabin resort a mile away from Indian River GC that we are renting out the entire resort for our group so super convenient. So thats our home base.

All of these except Indian River GC (which is our 4 man scramble round so no one cares about it) were on bucket lists. I think a couple of the group have played Otsego Tribute but besides that our entire group is going in blind. Kinda exciting.

Renting out an entire resort for your buddies trip is a sick flex. Sounds like an epic time

Intrigued. Would be interested in hearing about the cabins and occupancy. My group is all about taking a chance with cheap lodging, but we run rather large at 28 to 32 people. I got us away from Treetops and into a Champion Hill-focused trip, going on year 3 of that now. But I’d like to get to the point of trying new courses each year, and this sounds interesting.

The cabin resort was purchased by a local family in 2021 and totally gutted and renovated and I think reopened in late 2022. Everything recent I’ve seen on it looks like a great setup. The entire resort is only 8 cabins. Each cabin has two beds so it fit our group perfectly (16 beds total in the resort). The resort is called Reeds on the River. About a mile south of Indian River GC. It butts up to the Sturgeon River just south of downtown Indian River. I know there was a couple more cabin resorts right in Indian River (I was looking at Pines Cottages too) but I dont recall seeing any that would fit that many (28-32) unless you wanted to put half in one resort and half in another. Granted they are only a mile apart.

In regards to Treetops…yeah our group started with 4 people in 2007 and we did Treetops like ten years in a row. Starting in 2018 we started branching out doing a different trip every year with the hope of playing every good public course in Michigan outside of Metro Detroit (where we are all from). We’ve had 16 people since 2020 and as the planner I refuse to let the group get any bigger. Too hard to plan. We are actually tentatively planning on going back to Treetops in 2027 for the ten year anniversary of our group moving away from Treetops and officially starting lol.

I organize a 32 person annual trip and this is our 12th year, first 11 at Treetops but we’re moving to Garland this year. Heading up tomorrow actually, excited to see some new courses!

Hey all, I have a bachelor party up near Torch Lake the weekend of June 8-9. I noticed that Pilgrim’s Run is perfectly located off 131 on my drive back to Chicago and the opportunity seems too good to pass up, so I grabbed a tee time there on Monday, June 10th at 11:30am. They wouldn’t let me book as a solo, so I booked a foursome and figured I’d see if anyone here was able to tag along.

Lovely track

Might want to cross-post in Slack as well if you’re in there. Sounds like a great time!

Howdy friends…

I’ve got a 36-day planned at Arcadia Bluffs on the 27th of June… One of my friends just backed out, if anyone is interested… We’ve got 7:20 Bluffs, 14:00 South. LMK

You’d be joining me a 13.5 HCP and a friend who is like a 25, so the golf wont be that pretty but we’ll keep the vibes high.

Heading to Detroit (Troy) in a few weeks for work. Best coffee options around the area?

We will be hitting up a Tigers game too. Any restaurants near the stadium worth checking out prior to the game? Or just go with ballpark food?

For Troy area probably Sabbath (Clawson), Birmingham Roast (Birmingham), or Commonwealth (Birmingham) assuming you’re staying in Troy.

Where in Troy?

My favorite (and i’m biased since i’m right down the street) is Sabbath in Clawson. Desert Oasis in Rochester (or RO) is pretty killer too if you’re on the north end of troy. % Coffee just opened up in troy and appears to be pretty popular, but I haven’t been. Cafe Immortelle is also supposed to be great, though I haven’t been.

Thanks for the recs. I will likely check out a couple. Percent Coffee looks like it is very close to where I am staying. Thanks again!

It just opened up, and it looks like it’s pretty busy every time I’ve passed it.

Only thing I’ll add, sabbath doesn’t have anywhere to sit inside. If you want a good sit down place you can also hit white wolf - it’s a Japanese style patisserie that slams
