Battle Creek area folks, get inside and stay safe. Tornado on the ground in SW Michigan.

A lot of Portage is damaged. The fed ex distribution center collapsed, I work right across the street and let about an hour before it went through. Fortunately sounds like everyone is safe.

Glad folks are safe. Sounded like there was a second one as well.

Michigan averages around 15 tornadoes per year historically and last year we had 19. So still perhaps in the ballpark.

Bringing this back to report that I once again lost the battle with the par 3 5th at Arcadia South. Hit it pin high, but it trundled off to the right collection ares, tried putting back up the hill and left it just short. Finished it with a double. The 16th was a bear today as well, playing 208 from the white tees and pin in a sucker-ish location where only a few steps left and you trundle way down into the collection area. Shot an 81 playing both those with double bogeys.

Still one of my favorite courses to play.

Asked on the Slack as well, but thought I’d post here too:

Wife and I are headed into Ann Arbor to walk around and just enjoy the city on a half day today (she doesn’t have to work at all). Any recommendations for cool shops to visit, things to see, not overly expensive places to eat?

Definitely recommend hitting up Frita Batido’s for a lunch. Not overly expensive, super delicious.

I’m a big fan of HOMES Brewery but they don’t open until later in the afternoon. If you like books, Literati Bookstore is really cool.

Would also recommend walking around the Nichols Arboretum. A lot of stuff is probably in bloom right now.

just saw @detroitgolfer19 as I’m typing this. Second Frita Batido’s and the Arb.

U of M’s museum of natural history and its art museum are great to visit (I think both are free).

for shops, check out Nickels Arcade. there’s some cool small shops and a cool coffee spot Comet coffe in there.

We’ve done Frita’s twice on quick trips through where we didn’t really have time to explore like we plan on doing today. Otherwise it would for sure be on our list. Hoping to convince her to let us get some friend plantains though.

Another lunch spot I love is Avalon Cafe. They’re based in Detroit and I go to the downtown one often, but they also a location in Ann Arbor. It’s like a local Panera

Maize and Blue deli is a cheap and delicious deli alternative to Zingerman’s.

If you’re there for breakfast, plenty of good diners (Benny’s is my favorite) or more takeout style (Dimos)

Also, Broadway cafe. Spicy Bulgogi Beef will keep hitting for the next 8 hours or so. bring tictacs. and tums. Worth it.

Posted in Forest Dunes thread also, but any of you in Roscommon this weekend? Buddy just bailed on me due to his back, flying solo Sat-Mon.

Just settled on our 2025 annual summer golf trip with our 16 man group. Have only booked one of the rounds and the lodging but the itinerary is hoping to be:
Day 1 afternoon: Otsego Tribute
Day 2 morning: Hidden River
Day 2 afternoon: Indian River GC
Day 3 morning: Black Lake
All of these will be first time plays for most of the group. Looking forward to it.

Haven’t played 3 and 4, but can vouch for the first 2. But seems like a nice, mostly off the beaten path trip. I only played the Tribute once but liked it a lot. Would play it over any of the Treetops courses.

I played Black Lake last summer on my buddy’s trip. Very fun course. Conditions were excellent even though we played in on again off again down pours. Would definitely play it again.
