I won’t deal with Carls.
Short story: years ago I was looking to grab a Scotty Cameron My Girl for my daughter (can’t remember which year, maybe 09). Anyways, I’d been collecting for a bit and knew the MSRP on these. I called Carl’s on Telegraph to see if they were getting and they were. They took my name and said to come pick it in up a couple weeks when it would be in.
Went in, they had it, and then wrang me up $300 over MSRP. I asked what that was about and they said they looked up what they were going for on eBay so thats what they are charging. I politely said if I wanted to pay ebay prices I’d have bought there just as easily. They went in the back to discuss with Mgr and eventually came out to tell me the same thing. I said no thanks and walked out cursing under my breath a bit. Passed an older gentleman and his wife entering, he said something to the effect of “hi, and hows your day going”, and I came back with something like “not so hot now”, he inquired and I told him about Carl’s marking up stuff over MSRP. He introduced himself as Carl. We went back inside. Of course nothing came of it. So, long story short F Carl’s. Their prices have never been great otherwise.
I ended up getting my daughter another Scotty. Not limited edition. But one customized for her.
Looking back I wish I went in and offered below asking price on drivers, putters, etc and just said thats what they are going for on eBay.
Went in there to try a buy a wedge about two months ago. All the employees were standing around and didn’t want to help me with any questions I had so I walked out. I won’t go back.
I hate to say it, but the Carl’s in Plymouth has the worst customer service ever. If you want to buy an off the rack club and hit 5 balls…no problem. Any more than that and they are useless.
I’ve had nothing but great experiences from Carl’s in Plymouth - I’m there all the time.
I for sure would not do a fitting or anything more “advanced” there as they don’t have a trackman set up. I took some wedge heads and shafts to be built and they sent them to the Bloomfield location for me.
There a a couple of guys there that are helpful, but the comment about a bunch of guys standing around not being super helpful sounded a lot like the Plymouth location to me. I love that the store is there and hope they succeed, they just aren’t on the same level as Miles, even in non-trackman related stuff. Simple things like, do you have this in a different shaft? It’s pulling teeth sometimes there.
I always supported the carl’s in bloomfield but recently the service has been awful. the guys behind the service desk are rude and condescending. last time i went there to get a putter regripped and the lie adjusted, it took a few minutes to get anyone’s attention and they were just standing there not doing anything, and then when I told them what specs I wanted on the putter they questioned why and tried to talk me out of it. I was fit into the specs on a sam putt lab at the club champion in royal oak (which I would recommend for fitting even tho it can be pricey) so yeah I basically will not be going to carl’s anymore
That’s a perfect take on this.
If you know what you want, they are irritated with you. It’s like they are only happy selling Wilson drivers to old men.
i haven’t (it happens to be on the same weekend as an outing my FIL puts on every year…)but know quite a few that have and have always heard good/great things. Does sound like they’re tacking on extra costs for replay rounds that was never charged before but thats one of the very few frustrations/issues I have heard of.
Anyone been to Forest Dunes? I am going mid May (Hopefully). Playing all 3 courses staying at the small hotel they have. Anyone have suggestions for food and what not? I saw they have a full kitchen in the room so I was gonna whip up some food for myself. Thanks in advance!
It’s the best. You’re likely staying at one of the cabins at the resort. They have a restaurant at the clubhouse and it’s mostly just fine. If you’re with a group for sure grab supplies at a grocery store for dinners.
Restaurant is solid and hits all price points for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, B.C. Pizza is ~15 minutes from the resort does take out and delivery.
I go up there every spring for 4 days and we typically utilize the clubhouse for breakfast and lunch every day and then alternate dinners between clubhouse carry out and B.C. pizza delivery.
