I considered Washtenaw, my mom grew up in Ypsilanti and I have family that lives on the course, chose to stay away because a few years ago they mentioned it heading in a bad direction. Is it clearly a better course than Eagle Crest??
We definitely have Frida Batidos on the list, HOMES looks awesome, adding that to the potential list to check out!
Butchers Union and The Mitten are on the radar, just checked out Donkey and that place looks really good. Hopcat is kinda a midwest franchise taproom right?
Basically, I don’t think they have their own beers, but serve a lot of local ones. The downtown location is cool, it’s right in the main drag for bars. I looked and there are also whitecaps home games on the 14th and 15th if you’re looking for stuff to do.
I think it is. Some of the best greens in the area and they’ve been very aggressive with tree removal in recent years. It’s a really fun course. Eagle Crest is great, but I much prefer Washenaw.
Yeah I don’t know what year it changed, but it used to be private and now it’s public. Perhaps the club was going downhill before the switch. I’ve been going the past 3 years and it’s been hard to beat. Super affordable, don’t think I’ve had a slow round there yet, and the greens are some of the most fun to play, and always in great shape. Quirky ass 8th hole that I’ve come to really enjoy. Green expansion. Tree removal. Just a lot of good stuff happening.
Might have to consider an itinerary change. When I booked Eagle Crest they mentioned they are doing some renovations this spring and might mean a few holes are closed when we are there. I planned to call back in a month or so and see if that’s still going to be the case.
Just had Frida Batidos for the first time earlier this week, been on my list of places to hit after Tourist Sauce. Did not disappoint in the least, great food and great vibes. Would recommend!
maybe it’s the beer nerd in me but hopcat stinks. They used to be great, but they’ve really fucked around with their beer lists and have largely shied away from good local craft beer. Food, I assume, is still pretty good.
There is a ton of great beer in GR, but not a ton of spots that curate them all so to speak. One spot we hit recently was house rules lounge. games, beers, and I believe a bottle shop attached as well. Also, it’s basically across the street from GR downtown market which is really awesome.
I completely agree. They strayed a lot from who they were during their over expansion, and a lot of the people brought on were from Yard House who tried to replicate that place. They still haven’t gotten back to what they used to be post bankruptcy.
If you like the downtown market, there’s an excellent board game bar right across the street there called house rules. You can reserve a table for however long you want, and they have a huge selection of both games and drinks, it’s great if you’re into that kind of thing.
Extremely random question here, does anybody with knowledge of Harbor Shores know if they have a locker room where I could change? I’ll be leaving the house about 6am tomorrow so trying to figure out if I can wait and get changed when I get there or if I need to stop before I get there.
On a completely different vibe, a place that we always neglect for long periods of time and then when we have it again we say, “this is so good, why don’t we get it more often?!” is Kosmo’s bibimbop. There are only 3 things on the menu, I believe, so you’re there for the bibombop and nothing else.
