Roll Call: Michigan - get out and play!

Going to be driving to Detroit for work on Sunday, May 21. Any chance anyone would like to host me at University of Michigan’s course? If not, I will probably try Blackheath or another course outside of the city. Even thought about hitting the Ambassador Club in Windsor. What’s the traffic like getting to and from the border? Does it usually take just a few minutes to clear customs or is it more like 30 minutes?

Thanks!

Getting into Canada is easy as hell. They’re so friendly and it takes 2 minutes. Coming back into the states is awful

Agree, just be sure you don’t have any weed going into Canada… They will make your life hell if they find even a speck. (Literally speaking for a friend).

Isn’t it legal there now?

Not sure, my friend (who doesn’t get high) was crossing a couple years ago and they for some reason searched her car and found an old empty pipe of her kids and took her to jail and charged her $500!

It is legal but international borders get weird. Best bet is to buy local. I think CBP is pretty strict about DUIs as well.

Yeah I mean I wouldn’t try to take it across, but seems weird to get in a huff over something that little. Especially as it’s legal in Michigan and Ontario afaik.

He’ll I’d be nervous buying in Michigan and driving it back to Ohio! Crossing state lines brings that whole federal crime into it, granted so is possession.

Holy shit. That’s insane.

Yep, it sure made me skip that shortcut through Ontario when driving from Michigan to the East Coast!

Last year I went there thinking “it’s legal here and there so it won’t be a big deal” and I got in and out no problem, but once I found out what a big deal it was afterwards it made me reconsider what I’ll be doing this year lol. I’ve heard from multiple people they make a huge deal out of it.

I also crossed back at the Walpole Island/Algonac ferry by mistake and think it may have worked to my advantage. Only car on the way back, they took maybe 2-3 mins to check my trunk and I was on my way.

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone might have anything to put in the raffle we are putting on for Max 3. Anything and everything helps generate as much of a donation to the cause as possible. Shoot me a DM if you are interested!

Grand Rapids area nesticles…

What in the name of Christ are they doing to the 7th hole at Quail Ridge?

Calling the GR nesticles as well…

I’m planning a mini-trip June 9-10 to the play the DeVries trio (DS, Mines, and PR). Thinking Diamond in the AM on the 9th, Mines in the PM. And then PR in the AM on the 10th. I have two slots open for both DS and the Mines, and 1 for PR. It’s going to be me and my brother-in-law for all three rounds. And then my brother will join for the Sat morning round. Courses could shuffle depending on tee time availability.

I’d love to fill out our foursome with a couple of NLU guys instead of getting stuck with a couple of randos. If anyone’s interested, send me a DM and we’ll try to figure it out.

They are lengthening the hole and putting a green on the other side of that pond. Should be a good change as that hole was always kind of a cake walk. I am hoping they open up the green this year for play, but last time I was out there it was still looking like they were a ways out from playing on it.

Headed up to (I believe) Saugatuck area for a bachelor party this weekend. We are playing Harbor Shores on the way up Friday and then Ravines on Saturday. I was hoping to tack a 3rd round on for Sunday and play one of the heavy hitters in GR but decided against the cost and driving an hour north out of my way after a long weekend.

Anybody got intel on Harbor Shores or Ravines? Looks like HS is going to be a kick in the dick tough and I don’t think anybody in this group is a decent golfer so we’ll see how that goes.

Not sure where you’re staying, but Diamond Springs of Tourist Sauce fame is both a very enjoyable play and dead east ~20min of the Ravines. Much friendlier course than either HS or Ravines, especially from the one-ups. It’s a personal favorite, would recommend. One of these days I’ll get my petition to make single cut grass the national standard started.

Harbor Shores from the whites is playable but you’ll need to have an idea what’s going to happen off the tee or you’ll be down a sleeve or two. Plays like two or three different courses IMO (a dunes, a forest, and a parkland). Interesting way to use the land and some great views. I’m no expert, but it feels like a publicly accessible pro golf course rather than a high end public course (if that distinction makes sense…)

Ravines should be playable, given the heather hasn’t grown in yet. Haven’t been out there yet this year but I play there at least once or twice a year. Solid option for sure, and I would rank this more as a mid/high end public course vs. the other two.

Damn, wish I would’ve done a little bit more research before locking myself in for Friday to give myself the chance to play Diamond Springs on Sunday…

Guess it just gives me a reason to take a personal trip up that way and knock off some of the TS courses.

Excellent point on the single cut grass. And it’s such a fun course to play.

The ravines is an enjoyable course, but don’t play the tips unless you want another kick in the dick right away

We are flying in/out of DTW, staying a night in Ann Arbor and two nights in downtown Grand Rapids. Open to any and all suggestions for itinerary and food/bev places, the group is open to anything food wise, loves breweries and whiskey/bourbon.
