Got any hookups at the Field Club?!
For the PGA Championship in 2019 they closed it about 3 weeks before the event if I remember correctly. I played it a month before and Im pretty sure it was open for tee times at least another week after that. Grandstands were all up and the rough was already juicy.
I’m not sure if @peterdubbya is still around
Yup - Got a hookup
what a generous person
Okay, two separate rental car reservations makes most sense. You should be able to option rental car pickup and return for different locations, which sounds like would make life significantly easier for you.
I’m seeing in some places that they’re gonna close 6-weeks in advance (mid-August) so they can do the Ryder Cup build out; it’ll likely affect the other holes. For example, Green 1 and Red 18 were both closed to put up grandstands next to Black 1 and 18, respectively.
I’m assuming this is the correct thread for a question about the Newark area. I’ve a flight to EWR and then a flight onto Savannah in April. The connection time is tighter than ive usually had at EWR so i am making contingencies.
If i end up staying overnight at a hotel near the airport, is it worth going to Skyway for 9/18 holes and/or a Range session? There would be time that night to repack my travel bag before an early morning flight the next day.
Extra golf is always a good thing! Skyway has a good charm to it, would I go out of my way,no, but it’s worth playing because it’s golf! They have multiple flights a day to SAV so if you miss your first they can probably get you out on the later one!
Thanks! The next flight gets me to SAV at 1130pm and would involve another 6 hours at EWR. At that point I’d rather get an airport hotel and 18 holes in. Hopefully my flight goes on time and i get to warmer weather on schedule.
That’s fair, in that case, Francis Byrne or Rock Spring are only 15-20 minutes from EWR that are pretty good options. Also Galloping Hill is the other direction but also very playable.
Saying hi here as well. Usually just play Dyker bc it’s the closest to me in BK.
Francis Byrne is solid, pretty fun course
Honestly, I have been modelling options for when I drive from NJ to LI (potential to play golf in NJ on arrival day vs driving to LI that morning and playing there) and it’s just fucking relentless! Sydney traffic is proper hectic, but between 10am and 3pm it does let up a fair bit. NY traffic does not appear to have any quit in it!
Assuming jetlag is gonna skull fuck me the way it always does travelling to the US East Coast, I’m toying with staying in NJ the first night and just driving to LI at 3am the next morning when I invariably wake up fresh as a daisy cos my body thinks it’s 5pm!
That’s actually a great idea, if you can’t beat it, utilize it! At 3am you can drive right through manhattan just for fun and it won’t add to much time to the journey!

North NJ golfer here. I play at Galloping Hill quite often and usually am looking to fill spots in foursomes. Does this belong here? Would love to build a little NJ contingent and work toward a Roost if there isn’t one in the Garden State already.
Hey @folger - the discord group has a chat where people get together, fill foursomes etc.
Thank you, @blink182historian!
Hey @folger, as Pat said, the NY Roost aka the RACDGNY is not active on the Refuge, everything happens in Discord. There are about 400 of us in the Discord.
There are many tee times in the #LetsGoLaunchEm channel all around NJ, NYC, Long Island, Westchester, CT, and also in the Philly and Albany areas.

We have an event at Francis Byrne in a couple of weeks, the event page says it’s full but there are two spots available if you are interested!
