Some day the US Open will be played there though don’t worry.
The real question is when will you tee off? If after 4 everyday $650 still stinks. There are a few 9 hole private courses around there with milton hoosic and wampatuck
I would be trying to play some amount of golf before and/or after work a few times a week. I would not expect to fit a full 18 in, and maybe not even 9 every time. Just want to get out more on the weekdays.
Thanks I’ll take a look at the ones you listed
Depending on where you live Framingham is another option as is Hopkinton. I like the course at PV a lot but it seems to always have money issues.
You could also consider Tatnuck CC, which is close to the Paxton / Worcester line. It’s a 9 hole Donald Ross.
And @Melough the golf course at Worcester is really good. In case you want to check it out a bit…
I used to be a weekday member at Cyprian Keyes. The course was always in great condition and it’s got an interesting layout plus a good 9 hole par 3 course if you’re tight on time. I was always able to shoot out after work, rarely a wait, and once I got to know the staff they would drive me out to an open section of the course if I just wanted to play a few. Lots of woods and easy to lose balls, but still a good option.
Hey guys I know this may be redundant with the above replies I’ve been looking for a young executive membership somewhere around the south shore, if anybody has any suggestions I’m all ears.
Weathervane has a young adult membership, $1800 for 30 and under
I’ve never heard Cyprian’s layout called “interesting” before. “Horrific” is usually the term I associate with it.
Depending on how young you are, Plymouth Country Club’s junior membership goes up to age 25, I believe. The downside is it’s a pretty crowded course, especially now, and it’s not easy at all. But it’s very nice.
Seconding @TatnuckCaddie who doesn’t sound biased for Tatnuck at all
I am not very unbiased either, my family were members there for a long time and I played my high school golf there. My cousins are still members and I go a few times a year. It very affordable, good practice area, clubhouse is pretty nice and a good dinner spot too, locker room is pretty updated. Greens are always in fantastic shape. It is only 9 holes but they have 2 sets of tee boxes so the holes still change.
There is a stretch of unreal fun golf holes 2-6. Downhill par 3, short par 4, reachable par 5, drivable par 4, blind-ish par 3 up the hill. I could play those holes on repeat forever. The remaining 4 holes are very tough so it’s no cakewalk.
Out of curiosity, do you know a ballpark figure for membership cost? I’ve been contemplating doing some research into Tatnuck. I played Cohassee a few times during public play days last year and am intrigued by these private nine hole courses with good amenities.
I really enjoyed Plymouth. Fun track but I can’t testify to how busy it was. Played it on a Monday.
FWIW they have a deal for 30-35 age as well. $3k initiation paid out over 10 years and dues are roughly $3k a year.
It’s roughly $4k dues no initiation (depending on age and family situation). They also have a non-local membership for like $1,200 if you live/work more than 30 miles away. Really never that busy, my cousin never has trouble getting a tee time. They have some really fun tourney’s too. They set up a tent in the middle of the course in between a few tees/greens and its free beer and burgers/dogs the whole tourney. They have to do it in 2 waves because of the 9 holes so it’s like a pro tourney you get a morning/late start and the morning guys just stay there all day and get hammered bc they have a late start the next day haha. I’ll update this if I here something back from my cousin and that number is way off base.
Do you guys have any insight into Vesper CC? Kind of a hike but the reviews seem great. I took a tour today and it all looked nice enough but I have no idea what the membership looks like.
cc: @golferjoe
Vesper is beautiful. Grew around the area and played my high school conference there.
Membership has been getting younger, but you’d be hard press to find a better private up there. It’s definitely an interesting track (look no further than 1), but the condition and the amount of talent that plays out of there makes it worth the investment
Is Vesper joinable? I always had the impression that it was old money and impossible to get in
I’m 99% sure there’s no current waiting list and the application process is pretty straightforward. And from what I’ve been able to see it’s the sweet spot between nicest course and cheapest initiation and dues.
I’m excited to see the course - everyone has said some great things about it
