If you’re going, I’m tagging along.
If anyone was thinking of doing this but needed someone to tag for the contest, feel free to tag me. Same handle on Twitter.

Played Thorny Lea a few years back when I first started golfing and don’t remember a single thing about it. I think it was nice lol
Thanks to everyone that gave me recs a few days ago. I ended up booking Metacomet, but my friend and I aren’t going to play tomorrow because of that stupid storm that is coming through overnight. The course will probably be underwater anyways. Even if the rain is gone, we’re not really in the mood to play in 30-50 mph winds all day.
With all this praise I am definitely going to have and get out to Metacomet before it is too late. Really hoping for a late, easy winter this year
Good on TC for hoofing 36 at Essex and Myopia. Former is a hike and latter kicks you in the dick
Not that anyone who frequents this thread needs any encouragement to listen, but the NLU interview with Faxon is a great one, both in general and for some of the insider perspective that Faxon shares about Metacomet and other New England private clubs.
Random question, and apologies if it doesn’t fit here (here the thread and here NLU).
Due to a new job, I will be able to play during the week a few times per month and I can be flexible about when. I was looking about the “virtual clubs” in MA and I am very confused.
[Context: I’m located in Boston. 30 Handicap. Looking for the 2020 season]
There is N.E.A.T. (Used to be, as far as I can tell B.A.G.S.-RI). Tons of events, the price looks very reasonable. They play in Eastern MA often enough.
In their webpage they refer to B.A.G.S.-Boston, and a change of ownership for the reason for the schism, but I cannot find anything online about their 2019 schedule, or if they exist currently at all. I guess they should be the best fit in theory, but it’s not a great sign I cannot even find them.
Last, there is The Tour of Greater Boston. Less events, nicer courses (during the week), more expensive (due to being nicer courses!). But for the courses I have played, and the ones they share with B.A.G.S. their mark up is considerably higher (A lot!). I feel is a worse fit for a high-handicaper like me.
Anybody has experience with any of them? Advise? Other recommendations?

@golferjoe do you know about The Tour?
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I can see the BAGS-RI page and schedule fine, but, is there a BAGS-Boston? Or are they now the same? That was my question.
i think they’re the same, given that the events are generally in the Boston area
Anyone want to be the 4th on Tuesday morning 11/12 at Marion. Check out the first work of George Thomas. No tee times. Plan is to meet ~930
myself

@TheMassHacker
We sneakin onto Kittansett afterwards? I might be in if so.
The number of people who asked me what I was doing the one time I overshot Marion and simply drove onto Kittansett’s property because there was no place before that to turn around make me think this is unlikely. But if we wanna go birdie hunting at Little Harbor, that could also be fun.
Once showed up at Worcester Country Club for my 9am tee time that was actually down the road at Wachusett Country Club. Felt like I was in the wrong place when, after sitting in my car waiting for my friend to pull in, the bag boy came up and tried to grab my bags from my trunk. Rest of the group got a good kick out of the story when I finally figured out where I was supposed to be.
No clue.
The NES (New England Series) is generally the top tier courses, pretty steep greens fees but hey, most of the courses are bucket list places.
I’ve been dying to get to Marion… I really need to find a job where it’s easier for me to “work from home”
Similar story happened to me and a friend when we were in college in Philadelphia. Keep in mind this was like 2006 or 2007, so internet research for golf courses was pretty tough and google maps on a smart phone wasn’t in my pocket.
Drove out of the city looking for a cheap muni called Twining Valley, but didn’t realize that the area is also home to a few other courses in very close proximity with some confusing roads and intersections. Pulled into an unmarked golf course driveway and proceeded up to the clubhouse, all the while we were thinking “Wow this place is gonna be awesome!” We stroll into the pro shop, and we are greeted by one of the pros who is friendly but skeptical of what we’re doing.
“Is this Twining Valley?” we asked.
“HA, no, it’s not.” replied the pro at Manufacturers’ Golf Club.
I feel like there’s a decent little Refuge thread for these stories to be made - like embarrassing moments etc.
Guessing something will be posted in the Boston Golf and Social thread coming up, but 11/17 will be an outing at Bass Rocks where I suppose I’m technically co-hosting. We’re limiting the numbers to 20 guys, should be a good day. Hit up @RobbieVogel for the details and sign up info.
