Greetings Ballfrog fans, this is Matt, fellow refugee hailing from the great(?) state of Ohio. My family is making a trip to the Cape this weekend, and I wanted to see if anyone wanted to launch 'em.
We are staying in Bourne/Falmouth area and I’ve made tee times at Cape Cod Country Club in East Falmouth on Saturday 8/31 at 7:21am and Sunday 9/1 at 7:12am. Both times are foursomes. Would be happy to play with any refugees who were interested.
In the few times I’ve played, I have been accompanied. That being said, if you are willing to pay that rate, it is pretty easy to grab a time a couple days in advance. I’ve never seen the course backed up, and I think they take a good deal of pride in their pace.
For what its worth, the course is top 5 for me. Challenging layout, and always in really good condition.
This Saturday we’re going be starting the Boston Tee Party 2024-2025 season with a rescheduled event: The Roger Murdock Open. Originally scheduled for July, this event will now take place Saturday, September 21st on the short course at Forekicks in Norfolk. To combat an earlier sunset, we now have the course from 4-7. Cost remains the same: $45 per person (or $15 an hour if you don’t think you’ll be able to stay the whole time). To prevent the course from being too crowded we’ll keep it at 36 spots, so 1 group per hole and go off with a shotgun start. Sign up on the sheet below.
Why are we naming an event after the co-pilot from Airplane? Well, he was played by a young actor by the name of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Fun fact about this actor - he also played a little basketball. In fact, he owns the most 2-point baskets in NBA history. And the goal of this tournaments will be 2s. The most 2s in 2 trips around the course will be our winner.
Here’s where it gets interesting: we have the course for 3 hours. 2 loops will be easy to fit in but if you want to try and better your total you can go around a third time. But before you do, you must declare to members of your group which of your loops you will be giving up and that third loop will count no matter what.
For example: Let’s say you’ve gone around twice, getting 3 birdies the first time and 2 the second. Your score is 5. You can stop there and mess around for the remaining time we have the course. But you barely lipped out a couple putts on that second loop, so you’re pretty sure you can do better and give up the 2. However, it’s a little darker, your legs are tired and third time around you get 1. Sorry, your score is now 4.
While it may sound serious, this is going to be even more casual than our normal events at a course where the longest hole is 157 yards, so it is a great chance to bring a spouse, child or friend you are trying to introduce to the game. Hope to see you there!
Hey all… I’ll be driving down to Portland, Maine in a couple weeks, but stopping in to Boston for a day or 2. Just wondering what the best public access courses in the area are? I’m already planning on hitting up George Wright. Any others I should check out?
And anybody want to play the morning of Fri October 4th? Maybe even the Thursday
Hi all, I’m in town visiting from Capital Golf Club country (DC). I’ve got two spots to fill at George Wright tomorrow at 3:20pm, if any locals care to join for a game.
