Roll Call: Massachusetts

Anyone looking to get out for a round on Sunday? New to the area, located in Medford, willing to drive 30-45 mins if anyone has an open slot.

Neil posted about exclusive NLU Titleist GT fitting events coming up. Checked the list just to see if any nearby:

If it’s at Granite Links I assume it’s a fitting for a straitjacket and not clubs?

Are there any grass ranges in the greater boston area? Stone Meadow’s are closed indefinitely

Not sure if you would consider Southboro Greater Boston, but the range out on Rte. 9 has grass tees.

Sent this out as an email to all Boston Tee Partiers but in case there is someone who isn’t signed up there, wanted to let you know about a cool competition we have going on next weekend.

As some of you may know, this year BTP is hosting our Roost regional competition between Boston, NYC, Philly and Baltimore. The competition is taking place next weekend, August 3rd and 4th down in Providence. August 3rd we will be playing at Trigg Memorial and August 4th we are looping the 9-hole Met Links (the former Metacomet CC) three times in a variety of formats. When I was booking these I secured extra tee times in case the other Roosts wanted to bring some backup players but none of them will be. As such, we have extra spots to fill and I wanted to see if any of you were interested in coming out and being part of the fun.

We have 3 spaces open for Trigg Memorial, first come first serve for sign-up. We have a block of tee times starting at 1, so this would be part of the last group going off at 1:40. The competitors will be playing normal NLU quota, but players who are not part of the competition can play whatever format they wish. Cost for this will be $60, more if you want a cart, payable to the course. After golf we will be meeting for drinks and food at a local brewery, details to follow for those that sign up

Sunday we have a plethora of spaces open at Met Links since we had to have a larger minimum number to get all three loops blocked off. The competitors will be playing 9 holes of best ball, 9 of alt-shot and ending with 9 holes of matchplay. As with Trigg, players who are not part of the competition can play whatever format they wish but I do ask you keep it moving to not hold up the teams, especially during the alt-shot round when only 2 balls will be in play. Please sign up either way but if you want to be part of the format put a yes in the pairing column (you can name a partner if you are signing up a friend) as well as a handicap and I will do my best to find you an equal partner/opponent if there is enough interest. Cost for golf is $75, a cart would be $30 if you want it and I am still looking at lunch options, which would be an additional fee, trying to keep it around $15.

Remember, you don’t need to have participated in any events prior to this to come and play at the regional sites. You can sign up for both or just one day if that is all your schedule allows. Both sign up options are on the sheet below.

Got to play Hyannisport Club yesterday. Damn, what a course. That scenery is unreal and the course is immaculate. No wonder the superrich love it.

You need a pro to make a call or a member can sponsor a unaccompanied round in the offseason. 3rd week of September you should be set for either option. In season, each member can only bring 5-6 guests.

Hey guys, haven’t been in here for a few years. Originally from Harvard but I live out in Los Angeles now. I’ll be back for The Stowaway but also interested in other playing opportunities around then.

I remember when this was announced a few years ago. Great to see the progress although I’ll still likely never play it. International's Pines: Same name, but a very new look

Hey everyone, I have the perfect storm of a day off next Wednesday, the wife has plans and the sons at day care. Thinking of making a day of it and going out to either the Ranch or Crumpin Fox from Boston. Are they worth the drive and which should I choose?

I’ve always enjoyed Crumpin Fox, it’s worth playing at least once. Especially with how many Mass Am and USGA events they schedule at there. I’m sure I’m in the minority but I’ve always been meh on The Ranch. $110 greens fee is a lot for western mass.

Appreciate the quick response. $85 for the ranch. $128 for crumpin fox.

What are you meh about at the ranch, just the value? Or something else course specific?

That’s cheap for The Ranch, when I played it was definitely over $110. Layout was fine I think the cost just put me off.

Crumpin to me was more interesting and at the time in better shape. When I played it was $85 and I walked.

It won’t be open for play until next year, but you can play as my guest when it opens. It is going to be an unbelievable golf course.

At the very least this offer gives me a reason to visit my parents again next year

My favorite golf season is almost upon us gentlemen. I’m sitting on my back porch as the crisp, lower humidity riddled air is cooling me off from a day at a mediocre course in a shit charity scramble for a corporation today in Maine and I’m just happy that we’re closing in on Fall golf.

I have sticks, will travel for some good fall courses. I try to play Red Tail once a year in the fall, so open to anyone who wants to check that out.

I’m also woefully behind on good courses in MA. Still being relatively new to the game I’m a little out of the loop on some must plays outside the South Shore area where I grew up.

I’m booked until about 9/22 or so with travel but from then til Thanksgiving I want to check out some cool courses as the tourists move on and the temps get crisp and comfy.

Toss out courses I should check out and if you’re looking to join even better.
