Last update I heard was the reno won’t be starting until end of 2023 now FWIW
As mentioned Plymouth can get you 36 easily in a day. Crosswinds is 27 and next door to waverly Oaks. Pine hills has 36 holes. Atlantic and Southers Marsh are great fallbacks if the others cant swing it.
Did 36 in June. 18 at crosswinds, lunch at Rye Tavern and 18 at pine hills.
Rye has a great outdoor set up for that size crew too.
Piling on at this point but you really can’t go wrong with all the Plymouth, MA courses listed previously. They are all accommodating to your group size and close enough together to get 36 in + lots of lunch or dinner options.
With your note about coming from Long Island, are you ferrying over to New London?
Or doing the drive all the way up 95? Ferry may exclude Yale (backtrack) but give a very strong nod to Shennecossett
Anyone here ever been to a 5 Iron Golf? I see they are supposed to open on City Hall Plaza sometime this fall (which I assume means early 2023 at best). Could be a fun spot, curious about the pricing and availability at peak times.
Any other recommendations for a good sim spot in MetroWest (I am in Needham)? I don’t have the time to be able to commit to a weekly league in the winter, but would be up for an outing here or there. Seems like most places cater to leagues and lessons.
McGolf has a Sim. XGolf just opened in Walpole mall, Dr. Greens in Ashland. Fore in Westborough. Hopefully someone knows a little better than me if anything up 128
xGolf is in Wayland too, closer to Needham. I prefer Dr Greens and Fore the most though. Elite tap selection at Dr Greens and awesome food at Fore.
Walpole is actually a bit closer to home for me, but great to know about these options. McGolf is just down the street, but appreciate the options with a bar vibe.
Up 128 in Burlington you’ve got BigSticks and another xGolf
Some of us might take the ferry vs 95. Shennecossett was not on my radar so I appreciate the recommendation. Definitely going to hit Plymouth just have to figure out which course.
Waverly is the best layout of the Plymouth selection imo. Pinehills the best conditioned and having 36 on property is good. Crosswinds the best value and also some fun holes.
I live in Plymouth and am happy to give you any local recommendations for restaurants or whatever else.
credit @tim_morrill with the Shennecossett rec. But I have played it on a “pre ferry” round on the way to Montauk to get beat up by the Downs (twice in the weekend because I didn’t learn my lesson)
Stick Tap for Waverly and the layout. S/O Brian Silva
Does anyone have recommendations for instructors?
I’m a perennial 9-10 cap, but that number has ballooned a bit over the last two seasons due to injuries and other life stuff. I’ve resolved, this off-season, to get back to where I was, and lower if I can. I’m looking for an instructor/coach that I can work with consistently over the winter months, ideally someone who works at a facility where I can hit balls outside and see real ball flights (I’d rather not take simulator lessons at a Golftec/PGATS or similar if I can avoid it).
Instructors local to the MetroWest area are preferable, but location isn’t a complete deal-breaker.
I’ve worked with Brian Diamond at Willowcreek Golf Academy in Atkinson NH and he’s phenomenal. He has a setup with all the cameras and a Trackman that opens out to the range so you get kind of the best of both worlds.
He also set me up with an app on my phone so I can take video of my swing while I work on what he taught me and he gets back to me with feedback and tips etc. I know you said metro west and this is a Massachusetts thread but southern NH is close and Brian’s been a great help to me. Good luck!
Just popping in to say that I am back in the fray. Glad to see almost nothing has changed. Let’s go launch 'em (again).
The folks at Kohr in Natick are probably your best bet from what I’ve heard.
They’re very much on my short list, but there are a number of different instructors there. Was hoping people might have recommendations for specific instructors/coaches.
I currently go to Pure Drive in Woburn, and I would recommend them to anyone. Brian is the lead instructor there and he has always been great to me. Prior to Brian, I had taken a couple lessons at Pure Drive with Pat Bigelow, who since left to be the head of instruction at Framingham Country Club. I have no idea if he accepts lessons from outside the club, but it may be worth reaching out.
Cool news: "The Secret’s Out! Gil Hanse to oversee restoration of Marion GC.
“We are providing advice and a master plan to help guide them to restoring the course to George Thomas’ original design and intent. Going to be a very cool spot!!”

I see Luke Cantelo at Kohr. He’s great. Good facilities as well.
