Rum is 40 and Lighthouse is 49 until the end of March
I was going to do Lighthouse, but looking at google maps it doesn’t look very walkable. Is it?
I’ve never walked it but if the gap from 8 and 9 and then 12 to 13 didn’t exist it would be doable. The one is the longest cart bridge in America
I would wager you’re not even allowed to walk Lighthouse. I would bet that cartbridge alone creates a liability issue/worry.
I’ve never tired to walk it but I don’t think they would have a problem with it unless it’s on a day they are jammed packed. Most courses on the shore are the same way I would guess.
It’s a fine course but it’s not a walking course at all.
Got our line up for OC ‘21
River run and ocean pines
Both ocean city golf club courses
Nutters crossings
I know they’re not the top notch courses as most in the party didn’t want to go higher.
I’ve never played anyone of them. Anyone have some insight?
Im going to head up a day early to play lighthouse, bayside, or rum pointe.
Love eagles landing but they’re doing some kind of green punch right around our trip.
River run is a lot of fun and Nutters is an excellent course.
Ocean pines can be hit or miss. It’s pretty narrow and winds through the trees. I’ve seen it in great shape and terrible shape. Hope for great.
I’ve not played the other two. If you go down a day early, Rum Pointe is the play. Lighthouse is good but rum point is the best down there.
Ultimately it is what you make of it. I’ve played top 10 courses and not enjoyed myself because of other members in my group and I’ve played the worst dog track in Indiana with 6 of my buddies and had the greatest time.
It is what you make of it.
If I had to rank them
- OC - Newport Bay
- River Run
- Ocean Pines
- Nutter’s Crossing
- OC - Seaside
Newport is one of my favorites down there. River Run is underrated in my opinion.
Ocean Pines had done a lot of work over the last couple years including a new clubhouse. Trent Jones design as well and I like it more then I used to, has a lot of really good holes including all the par 3s IMO
Nutter’s is pretty easy and nothing crazy special but the greens are some of the best taken care on the shore outside of private clubs. They also have lengthen the course to a Par 72 (used to be 70) and I think it has made it a little better.
Seaside isn’t great but it’s kind of old school some cool holes.
Both of the OC courses (Newport and Seaside) will be in great shape like they always are
Same for Nutter’s and Ocean Pines (based on last year)
River Run’s conditions can be hit or miss but I like the layout a lot
Take this with the absolute smallest grain of salt, because I have little to no personal experience at these clubs, but I’m bored and Rory just doubled the first hole of the WM…
I hear from members at my club that Hayfields has a good men’s group, and the course is beautiful, but the layout seems a bit ho-hum to me. CC of MD is @JohnnyPanton 's course I believe- seems like a great classic layout and I imagine it has a good group since it’s closer to civilization. Elkridge seems to me like it might skew a bit older as far as membership. Woodholme seems to have a similar vibe, but again, just the sense I get. Eagles Nest seems like a cool track and like it would skew younger also, but that is almost 100% made-up projection.
I’m sure that helped a lot, but curious to hear a follow up once you decide on a place. Also I’ve mentioned it 1000 times on here already, but Piney Branch is a great course with a good men’s group. It’s about 15-20 minutes farther north than Hayfields, though. It skews a bit older and conservative as it’s out in the boonies, but we got 130 new members last year, many of them younger, so we’re looking forward to this season.
You have some great options there though- it doesn’t seem like you can make a bad choice.
I enjoyed my one time playing Piney Branch — granted it was during the Maryland state team match and Team CC of Maryland got smoked by Team Piney Branch, but it was a fun course with a good set of greens. I look forward to playing Piney Branch again this year.
I’m a member at OCGC and live here year round - happy to give you some recs around town if you’d like. Rum Pointe is far and away the best course down here, so play it above the others if you have the time.
Thanks
I’ve been to Ocean City plenty, but they’ve all been for family trips – so it’s a little weird looking for places to eat/drink or for things to do without my kids.
Does anyone on here play in any of the WMGA or MAGA (Washington Metro and Mid Atlantic Golf Association) events? I was scoping out some individual tourneys this year and saw a few run by them:
WMGA Mid Am at Worthington Manor - June 1
WMGA Am at Woodmore - Aug 5-8
MAGA Am at BCC - Sept 30-Aug. 3
I’ve played in the Frederick City Am the past couple of years, sometimes play the MD Mid-Am or try to qualify for the Am, and a few other one-off public club championships. Is anyone else in here a masochistic sicko that likes to torture themselves with Medal Play events?
I have not played any of these events, but I would do so to play BCC.

Haha yeah, they miiight wanna think about a rebrand

Never played in any of them but always had some interest in the Frederick City Am. How have your experiences been with that? How’s the course set up? I play out at Clustered Spires pretty regularly so would be curious how the tournament setup would be. I’ve heard they put the tee for the first hole on the practice green for one of the days lol.
