I’m biased because I worked there for a summer, but absolutely yes. Lodging is expensive, but you could get a hotel in Valentine if you wanted to save the money.
The golf is really good, which is good because that’s all there is to do. Course is always in great shape. The price you pay is for unlimited golf for the day, so most people play in the morning, eat lunch, then play 18 more in the afternoon. Depending on the weather, you could get as much as 72 in a day if you really wanted to.
Two different courses–The Dunes is a wide-open expanse, the scale of which is hard to comprehend, and The Pines winds through the trees and is a mix of trees and prairie. And there’s the Horse Course to mess about on if you still haven’t golfed enough.
Coming from KC, you could break up the drive and hit Wild Horse in Gothenburg and stay the night there or in North Platte and play one of the best value public courses in the nation while you’re at it.
Happy to answer any NE-related golf questions I can
I’d second the post up above. Really cool spot and if you can hit Wild Horse on the way up from KC, do it.
Completely Unrelated to anything else:
While I know quite of few here, I probably don’t know more. For those that I haven’t introduced myself to, that’s on me, I’m generally slow to open up and get to know new peeps - truly a character flaw
All that to say, introductions aside, I am attempting to try something new this offseason.
As some know I am pretty well versed in sports medicine matters - even so much as to be certified by TPI (which helps sponsor NLU) for golf sports medicine. While I have pretty extensive background elsewhere I LOVE taking care of golfers.
Have had many discussions with some here about full fledged golf assessments through TPI performance app and decided that it was probably a good idea to extend that to anyone interested.
All that to say as the midwest golf season winds down and people are looking at the start of #ImprovementSZN I would be happy to walk anyone through any orthopedic or golf needs. I’m also happy to do full TPI assessments - including lining up swing faults with poor body mechanics or strength deficits. Generally i prefer to do these in person but with this group, telehealth is also very possible.
At any rate, figured if anyone was interested they could reach out, happy to address any questions that you might have. For this group the rate will even be cut in half for assessments
Yeah but can you fix my back, my hand, my crampy forearms, or the fact that I can only twist enough to hurt myself?!
Miracles are usually reserved for religious purposes, but I can always try my hardest
Sarcasm included at no cost errrrybody.
Except for that one hole! Lol
Hello ladies and gents, totally random topic…and not trying to be (too) sleezy, but wanted to post an FYI here…my son’s coach (Austin Jarchow) is opening an instruction/simulator location in Lee’s Summit and the grand opening is tomorrow at 6:00 PM (Friday, 11/15). He’s a Titleist affiliate and TPI certified. Does assessments, fitness/mobility plans, instruction, or you can just rent one of the five hitting bays. Details below…

Looks like some great offerings and a great model. I always like to see facilities leaning into the junior segment - it can be a gravy train and you’re setting yourself up for years of a consistent client base. Competitive membership pricing as well!
Evidently too late to the game but always sad to see these open without hearing anything from them. There is so much more to be offered from a facility management perspective on top of the fitting/instruction capabilities and user experience.
If he ever wants to discuss swapping any or all of these Foresight products out for Trackman please let me know
If anyone is looking for an incline bench for a home gym setup for some offseason training, let me know. I’ll happily give it to you for free if you come pick it up (I’m in the northland)
DM me if you’re interested and I’ll send a couple of pics. It’s brand new and still wrapped in padding/plastic. It’s just taking up space in my garage. It came with a cable stack I ordered but I already have an incline bench I like.
Posted the general new routing for Hillcrest on the Discord, but since not everyone uses that/I couldn’t figure out how to post the whole packet there/the CAD file is making my adobe crash and not be able to convert the routing to an image, I wanted to post this here.
Looks like the Hillcrest ownership was not able to acquire the property from Jackson County necessary to construct some of the new holes so they have redone the routing. If you follow the link and go to attachments, then Hillcrest Golf Sup Submittal V1 you can see the full detailed plans for the course and club house.
Essentially, the old front nine (new back nine) stays basically the same but with the long par 3 as 16 (remodeled 7) and the short par 3 as hole 12 (new hole behind 3’s green and 4/8 tee). Old 4 as a par 4 is going to be a beast. Pushing the tees slightly up on 6 to make it a reachable 4 is cool. Restoring 8 to a par 5 (wish they had brough back the mega cross bunker that was originally there). 9 as a long par 4 finishing hole is a good idea.
The new front nine (old back nine) is a more extensive remodel. 10 is now a par 4, new hole from old 11 tee to essentially 5’s old green, new par three down to 12’s old tee, new par 5 that combines 12 and 16, new par 3 from 18’s tee down to basically the front tees for old 14. I like the combo 12 and 16 into one par 5, the redesign of 13 (now 9), and keeping 17.
Did we know changes to the fifth hole were part of the Swope renovation?
Has anyone heard of a new course being built in town? I saw a job posting via GCSAA’s twitter account from a local course construction firm I’d never heard of, and they’re looking for a project manager and project superintendent. I suppose it’s possible they’re just looking to add staff to support work on existing courses/projects, though.
About to have 3 torn apart but I imagine they all have these positions taken care of
Drove past MHCC and they are already WELL underway.
a bunch of us Tiffany Greens members got texts last night from a mystery number saying the rumors of the course being sold are true and that we should use our shop credit before the end of the year
no clue on the validity of the done deal claim, but the rumored buyer (or person interested at the very least) owns courses all over the area. so I would like to think it would be an upgrade if/when it goes through
the mystery number thing is pretty wild though. I think it was via a text/burner number service and to groups of people who know each other/play golf regularly together so it was clearly someone who works at the course or very embedded
I smell a GreatLife acquisition coming.
not who the rumored buyer is!
SCANDALOUS!!!
KCMO as buyer? Orion as new MGMT firm? I’d buy that for a dollar!
