I might be late to the party but the Deuce getting a rebrand is interesting. What are your thoughts @KC_Badger? You into it?
It’s fine, I don’t have a strong opinion on it to be honest. Our newest corporate overlords wanted to separate it from the National and have it ‘stand on its own’. Could that make it easier to sell or (gulp) go semi-private/public down the road? I think so.
As of April it’s The Bluffs Golf Course at the National if anyone was wondering.
I do kind of like the logo though. Hope to see you this summer, my man! It has been too long!
Hillcrest officially sold. Purchaser is 635 Holdings, LLC, which is Robb Heineman’s personal holding company. Jackson County’s property sale website hasn’t been updated so no idea how much the acquisition cost. Also, as of now, they have not submitted for any permits from the City to demolition the existing structures or build any new structures.
Hopefully with the purchase finally closing, we will hear about concrete plans soon.
I’ve got a twosome reserved for 9:10am this coming Thursday at Fred Arbanas to prep for Saturday’s @GreatPlainsGC event. Any takers? A foursome could be had if you lemme know end of business today(Saturday).
Light details on the plans. Looks like renovation with a “grand reopening as a private club in spring 2026.” Also some other interesting tidbits:
- Heineman was a member of Hillcrest in the early 2000s
- He considers this a “longtime pet project” which I think is a positive for the goal of Hillcrest getting restored to what it was/should have been.
- Puffery warning but quote from Heineman “Its a beautiful old property … and its a piece of land that, as we’ve talked to various nationally renowned golf architects, everybody feels like its got a ton of potential to be a top 100 golf course. I think the game plan is going to be really, really solid.”
Paywalls for news websites are dumb as fuck…
I just can’t contain my excitement for another “top 100” private club I’ll never see.
I feel this one dude. Talk about paywalls…
Don’t think it’s worked 100% of the time for me but going to the “Reader” view tapping the “aA” in the bottom left of safari has gotten me past paywalls many, many times.
Edit: if anyone has something similar for blowing past country club initiation fees lmk
Strong agree. Since there isn’t a built in membership base, I really hope they keep some times available for public play.
Also, I love Hillcrest but “top 100” course is an unreachable goal in my opinion. Could it be a top 5 course in Kansas City? Maybe. Could it be a top 100 course in the country? Nope. The property itself is really great (Ben can fight me over this but I think its better than Oakwood) but unless they are going to spend $10,000,000 on irrigation, stormwater control, tree removal, and backfilling the hillsides that have washed away over the past century I just can’t picture anything close to a top 100 course.
Robb in his delulu era
if anyone wants to read the whole article, I was able to archive dot is it to get around the paywall: https://archive.is/qyLxy
I did not know/remember that RH was behind the Shamrock project

Hey all, fairly new to the Refuge and GPGC! I saw there was a discord link going around in previous posts, so would love to get added to join any golf outings/events that are being planned for this season.
Here is a join link for the discord if the older posts don’t work:
@scagnetti can get you added to the GPGC group on the refuge. Event details are on the refuge, general bullshitting and random tee times are on the discord.
Our next event is The Appleseed at Excelsior Springs on April 20th. Hope to see you out there!
match play sign up ends in 4 days!
