Large topic of convo last night at sim league with seemlingly more info forthcoming soon…

Would be so cool if it stayed public and got fixed up but given what I’ve heard from you all & others, sounds like that’s unlikely.

Latest I heard from today is that the course will close after today with plans to “tear down” the clubhouse. Major reno of the clubhouse and course are planned with the intent to open back up as a private course focused on golf first a la Wolf Creek minus the men’s only thing. ~$15 million total reno budget

This is pretty much exactly what I heard. They are bulldozing the clubhouse, pool house, and pool. Replacing the clubhouse with what is seemingly a modern version of the original clubhouse (two stories, three hundred feet long). Renovating the course. Focusing exclusively on golf (the exact line I was told was “not a country club. A golf club”). Heard someone refer to it as “Midtown Wolf Creek.” As I said earlier I don’t think that is the best plan, but the guys involved (specifically the main guy who is extremely well known in KC) are smart business people so they must have a plan.
Hearing the timeline could be anywhere from 3 months to 1 year to complete all the work.

Also wanted to add that I would guess the course will be open to the public for at least a little as the new club builds up a membership base. Deal was supposed to close on the 14th but is delayed because of issues with the appraisal. The main money guy - most Recognizable name in kc generally and certainly well know to people on Here - has enough to cover the gap but they are still having to rework some of the financials.

It’s cool that Mahomes is buying a golf course now

Anyone who knows big names in KC have a better idea of who this is? I don’t wanna pressure @BlueRiverNotHOA to name drop.

Best guess is Tom Watson, but that might just be because I know nothing of the KC business world…

Would love for this to be the case

I dropped a hint in the portion quoted by @aborgmann … Its not Patrick Mahomes but is a person involved in sports in KC

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift bought a golf course?

My best guess of names that fit your description if it’s not Mahomes:

  • George Brett
  • Travis Kelce (if it’s not Mahomes, he’s the most most recognizable sports name, but it doesn’t seem like his thing)
  • Tom Watson (mainly because of your “certainly well know to people on here” comment)

Maybe I’m missing someone obvious, but after that, there are some owners of KC franchises that would do something like this, but I don’t think they fit your “most recognizable name in KC” description.

Gotta be Tom Watson

Not sure how he fits into the " person involved in sports in KC" criteria tho.

Unless it’s as simple as his youth golf stuff

Chris Long? Palmer Square?

Not Tom Watson or any other athlete. I think Tom Watson and the guy I am referencing both belong to KCCC though.
My “most recognizable name in KC” comment is in relation to the other members of the new ownership group. Sorry if that was confusing.

This is some Laz level “I know something you don’t know” nonsense.

Does the capital R and capital H provide a clue perhaps?
