I’m hearing they did some tree removal on 18 at Heritage Park as well. Typical muni trying to keep up with the private clubs…
Yup, even left of the creek.
Man, maybe I’m in the minority here, but I like #2 for the quirk. Otherwise people will just be bombing it over the corner going for it in 1. Love the target of hitting the top of the far end of the fairway, knowing its coming downhill and resting in the middle of fairway (not that Im able to execute it the way i want very often)
100 % agree it makes the hole challenging, lots of guys still go for it but at great risk. We did a league at Hillcrest this summer and that hole kept it interesting.
I think there’s a happy middle ground somewhere in there where you take out some trees so you can at least hit a straight shot and aim at the middle of the fairway (with something more than a long iron) while also protecting against someone from cutting the corner.
I don’t even know that you’d have to take out entire trees, probably just trim back some branches (in particular the ones I circled above).
Also, the penalty for not clearing those trees up near the green is SUBSTANTIAL from what I remember. Pretty sure it is an auto punch out sideways/backwards or layup into the fairway if you don’t carry 285 minimum. So, the risk in the risk/reward of cutting the corner on that hole is large.
2 is good. As someone who routinely finds themselves blocked out by the trees on the right side of the fairway OR punching out of them, it gets old.
I agree the trees you circled could be trimmed back but the real villain is that slope of that hill especially when the fairways are firm. Even if you hit the fairway you will roll down under the trees to the right side of the fairway.
I’d love to see them move the tee box back 50 yards, it’s claustrophobic with 1 green anyways, and then trim the trees up.
Hi everyone! New Nester here in KC. Been listening/watching NLU for a while and finally stopped procrastinating. Not a member anywhere, but like everyone, hoping to play more with each year and as the kids get more interested. Plan to drop a note in the Roost Roll Call thread to get hooked up with @GreatPlainsGC to give me some motivation as well!
Question; my son plays in the PGA Jr. League, but that doesn’t start until Memorial Day…is anyone aware of any youth based leagues, activities, etc. in the spring? I’ve checked in with the course where he does the league, but to no avail (besides lessons).
Welcome, Nick!
I’ve added you to the @GreatPlainsGC roster… now it’s your turn to… add yer name to the roster…
This Google Doc is a working piece of many things, leaderboard, sign up sheet, and yes, a registry. Navigate the tabs to Season 2 Registry, and plop yer info down in there.
Good timing, too. Roost Rosters are due end of this week!
Welcome again, announcements on the upcoming season are due any day now!
Welcome, @Outlaw44!
Thanks @scagnetti and @ActionThomson !
I’ve got my info added to the roster. Woohoo!
Not sure where you live in the metro, but Lady-Sykes used to have junior leagues on both their par-3 course and one of the full length 9s. I think they have them in the spring and fall as well as summer, but don’t know for sure.
Thanks @ericrbens! Appreciate it. Looks like a good option, but the spring league has tee times b/t 3:30 and 4:30, which won’t work for my kids getting out of school. For anyone else interested, here’s a link to their site. Junior Leagues
Did we get any headway/steam on a winter sim league yet?
Would love this to be a thing if possible
I’m interested as well!
Hey guys. Live in KCMO and, while not a Nest member (yet) I’ve added my info to the spreadsheet.
Not a member anywhere but poking around for places to join for this season. I’m 26, does anyone know of some places in the area offering good deals for younger members?
Hey Colin! Glad to have you. We will be rolling out more detailed info on the upcoming season for Great Plains Golf Club this week (I believe that includes some indoor sim get togethers @aborgmann) .
First thing that comes to mind given your age and location (assuming by you saying you live in KCMO you mean literally in KC proper on the missouri side and not in suburbs) is the KC30 pass. Swope Memorial | Memberships
Hey Colin! The KC30 pass is a pretty good deal. ~$400/5 months of unlimited golf at Heart of America, Swope, Minor Park, and Hodge Park. I think you still have to pay a fee before 1pm on the weekends (but reduced from normal price). No cart included. I’ve gotten it the last couple years and it has paid for itself everytime. We should play sometime!
