Roll Call: KC Area

I think finding an appropriate tee site for 16 playing it in reverse would be challenging. It’s just such a narrow corridor down there. You need to find some elevation to start from, as it’s just too steep uphill for most mortals. Having people launch driver over the chasm directly at the houses currently left of 16 is certainly a thing to get excited about!

There just shouldn’t even be golf holes on that little finger of land.

Anyone play in the SLAT event today at the Deuce? Might have been one of the stranger courses and routings I’ve ever seen. Interested in some other peoples take on it.

I was there.

To me it was a piece of property a developer couldn’t build houses on so they figured out a way to shoehorn a golf course into it.

Way too narrow most of the way around. 4, 12, 14, 17 shouldn’t even be golf holes. Little variety in par 3s. But there’s some good stuff too. 2, 8, 10, 18 are all pretty good.

I wish you weren’t teeing off a cliff into no mans land so often. But with that said I bet the learning curve is very steep and it would be more enjoyable to play in a not-tournament setting the 2nd time.

100% agree with that. First time I played there. I’ve never had my ass kicked so hard and wanted to get out there and play the course again so quickly. Not because the course was good though. Just to prove to myself I could actually play that course decently.

Seriously do think I could play that course and have a good time. But being a member there and mainly playing that course, even at $2000 a year, hard pass.

we had this discussion in our group.

I’d pay $2k/yr to play there, or most anywhere. The National aside, what are the other courses up there you’d rather play if you lived nearby? Tiffany?

Tiffany and Shoal are two of my favorites.

Does anyone know of any fall youth programs/tourneys/camps. Need an extra activity for the little guy who does better when I DONT tell him what to do. :joy: :joy: :joy:

Check Shoal. I’ve been at the range when they have group youth events.

Lady Sykes Andrews has a couple youth lessons starting really soon. Like next week if I’m not mistaken.

Thanks all. Little guy and I played in father son tourney for first tee couple years back, but they don’t have one this fall. Just trying to keep him busy,

I’m desperate to start walking when I play but have noticed that a lot of courses don’t offer a walk rate. What courses around here allow you to walk besides the HOA and other exec courses? On a related note, I’m in the market for a good carry or stand bag. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

As far as I know, the only public course in the area that doesn’t allow you to walk is Stone Canyon.

That is good to know and I would never want to walk stone canyon, that would be a nightmare. I guess I just rarely see a walk rate as generally it is just a flat fee. I don’t think they let you walk at Hillcrest as well, but I could be wrong.

I used to walk Hillcrest all the time; apart from a few holes, it’s a super easy walk. In fact, I’m pretty sure the new owner bought a small fleet of pushcarts that you can rent. Haven’t played out there since he jacked the prices, though.

Edit: you’re right in that a lot of places don’t advertise their walking rate, but almost all will knock off a few bucks if you don’t take a cart (the “almost” refers specifically to Falcon Valley, which is the only course I’ve played where walking costs the same as riding!).

See this is why I come here with my questions, thank you!

Sykes Lady, St. Andrews, Heritage Park, Minor Park, I think Swope, Fred Arbanas, and Eagle Bend (if you are will to make you’re way out to Lawrence) are all courses I have walked recently (and in my opinion are all totally walkable) that are cheaper to walk than ride.

And to answer that question, Ping hoofer lite is what I have and love walking with compared to three other bags I’ve had.

Best value in Kansas City - hard stop

I thought of correcting myself after I found out it’s $2,000 a deposit then $396/month (and a negligible F&B minimum, $75 a quarter seems fine). I’ll do it now since my post got the attention of the Brough Creek legend.

I’ll agree at $2000 a year there’s not much better value in the area, even if I would go bald playing the course, mainly just because I suck. But add the $396/month to that, I’ll stick to my original hard pass. Anyone who disagrees, totally respect that. Probably more of me not understanding course architecture then a problem with the course.

Ben, and really all, how does Deuce compare to National? Ive played many tourneys at the National but never the Deuce. Is it really worth the drive from the city proper (or even OP) to regularly play there?
