Roll Call: KC Area

I apologize boys, had a family emergency pop up mid-Saturday and couldn’t swing it. Looks like a blast, hope to make the next one.

this breaks my heart

I played DC last week and thought i was going to be getting a steal with $29 hot deal on golf now for an 11:27 tee time. I may have overpaid. Course was never elite but i always enjoyed how it made you hit good golf shots to score well. Hadn’t played there in a couple of years. Man has it gone to waste. Sad. With a bad course and really no amenities to speak of, its hard to fathom why anyone would go there other than pure convenience.

Yeah I remember playing it about 3 years ago and it was always in good shape. That was before Great LIfe.

I’ve played Deer Creek a bunch since 2005 and while those are bad, it’s never been in good shape when I’ve played it in my 50+ rounds out there over 15 years. One of the most overrated courses in KC imo but man I loved my psycho scorecards on that back 9 back in the day with very few pars.

yeah, definitely not as good of shape as a bunch of courses in town but those pics show that course as just dilapidated.

That’s what Prairie Highlands looked like for a few years, it was sad. Great Life sucks; I left Golf Club of Kansas not long after they took over.

I’m curious if Deer Creek will eventually get the same treatment Falcon Ridge and Prairie Highlands just got. The bunkers are almost finished at Falcon Ridge, and I have no complaints with it. The green run ups also got new sod on a few holes, and everything is growing in nicely. There’s still a few spots to patch, but it looks like that’s being addressed after the bunkers are finished up in the next couple weeks. Prairie Highlands is getting the same style renovation, and apparently is greatly improved as well. It’s shitty they seem to just be focusing on one or two courses while the others just rot in the meantime.

There will be more of these! And then your husband can return the favor. We also talked about getting out to BCN for some loops on our favorite local short course.

We have Great Life here in Mid Missouri and while its associated with KC, I don’t think it’s the same management. They have done great work taking over courses that had been run down and bringing them back to life. They run Eagle Knoll just south of Columbia, Hail Ridge in Boonville, Green Hills in Chillicothe, and Heritage Hills in Moberly. Now I can only speak to Hail Ridge and Eagle Knoll, but they’ve done great work getting those courses back into good playing condition.

Played Hail Ridge back in 2013, love that course. I was trying to look up who designed it but couldn’t find that anywhere

thats encouraging. my mom is from Moberly, and my parents still have a farm nearby (Clark). I think Heritage is the one my dad goes to play on occasion and always says it’s pretty good. I haven’t been there in probably 5 years.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to share a bit of personal news that may be of interest to some.

My name is Aaron and I am a physical therapist/athletic trainer by trade. My story can be found on my website www.borgmannrehabsolutions.com .

Why this pertains to you is that I wanted to let people know about a new service that will be coming to the area very soon as myself and John Richman (owner of Martin City Golf Complex) will be forming a new collaborative effort to help golfers (myself from the medical/performance side, John from the Instruction/Teaching side) called “Total Performance Golf”.

John is a PGA pro who has been featured on Golf Channel and I spent 12 years working in the NFL.

We will be able to utilize all indoor simulators and outdoor features of the practice facility.

We have many ideas on how to assist many people in their games but will be rolling out slowly first, then expanding as we go. Service details are yet to be finalized (most likely a monthly membership), but should anyone be interested in something that is all encompassing with regards to improving your game from any standpoint, don’t hesitate to reach out.

We look forward to playing a lot of golf and helping others as we go!

Yes please!

I’m rarely under $200 every single time I go…it makes no sense to me. I would’ve stopped and said hi, but I was trying to get out of the madhouse as fast as possible.

Anyone have any thoughts/ideas/comments on whats going on with the “Signature” Great Life courses? Canyon, Staley, and Siloh Springs all posting tee times online for $90 in the afternoons. First thing I haven’t played them but they really cant be worth that much for a Tuesday afternoon round right ? (Specifically Canyon, I was thinking about trying it out but god that still seems like a lot) Second what a slap in the face to their posted pricing model for what classic members are suppose to pay for rounds.

Classic members do have access to Signature clubs at the following rates:
Canyon Farms $175 | Staley Farms $150 | St Joseph CC $120 | Tallgrass CC $100 | Willowbend $100 | Falcon Ridge $100 | Prairie Highlands $85

Canyon Farms is advertising its a fucking $8000 initiation fee and $555 per month and they are still going to allow discounted public play on weekday afternoons. I hope no one got scammed into paying that price.

Also Prairie Highlands is the only one still remaining completely private post initial Covid restrictions that I’ve seen; when pre-lock down you could get out there routinely for <35$ for 18 and a cart. But they are a pretty great deal if you live out that way and they actually stay private. I know we’ve beat the Great Life is trash horse a million times but it seems like there is literally zero plan on what their membership means or there was a huge drop in membership this year since their is no contracts on signature courses and they are scrambling for revenue.

honestly, im not sure why anyone patronizes any GL course at this point.

come join me at Blue Hills for that rate.

Let’s do this soon.

This kind of pricing made me so mad when I looked for a club to join in KC. KC golf is such a ripoff. I can join a decent club in Tampa for a small or non existent initiation fee and <$300/month. And our season is 12 months a year instead of 6-8.
I could maybe see that pricing being somewhat reasonable until I saw the public play part. Paying $8,000 then $555/month should get you the benefit of 0 public play.

Where are you seeing the publicly available times for Shiloh and Canyon? The “Book Tee Time” link on their websites just opens the member booking portal that doesn’t show anything for non-members. Regardless, paying ~$90 for Canyon is probably worth it once, but I wouldn’t pay that regularly. I do know at Falcon Ridge, membership is currently at 375 which is up from the beginning of the season. All the renovation stuff has taken slightly longer than expected, but they’re slated to finish all the bunkers by the end of month instead of the middle of the month as initially stated.
