Sorry I missed the invite…was out of town with Ms Hawkeye this past weekend. The course changed significantly a few years back due to the derecho. Solid track and club but the lack of mature trees took a punch out of the defense of the routing.

The defense of the course is the tilt of and the speed of the greens. They could get them lightning fast.

Hey guys! Fiancé got a job offer today for a sales territory in the Davenport area. Looking to make the move next month, and for any recommendations on best cities to live/rent and places to avoid. Young couple, no kids or dogs looking for walkability to nearby spots if possible. Moving up from Georgia but lived in Wisconsin for most of our lives.

Downtown Davenport is a good spot to live by, wouldn’t recommend Bettendorf at all. Personally I live in Moline but there isn’t much for downtown living, they are working on it though. Rock Island is also a couple years away from being a good place to live. East Moline is also on the come-up, which still sounds weird to say out loud.
Moline has lots of parks and the walking trail along the river. Not too many apartments and as I’m sure you’re aware, not the greatest time to buy a house. That being said this whole area is unbelievably affordable to live and you shouldn’t have a problem finding somewhere quite reasonable to make a home.

Forgot to let you know that me and @RunItOut played a little cross-country golf at Saukie on Saturday. It was a delightful early December round at the Cities premier municipal golf course.

Pretty much mirror @grandpa_jones comments. I’ve just bought a house here after living in Iowa City for the last 11 years, and while I have plenty of reservations about moving “home”, the QC in general is making some decent moves to grow the right ways.
My thoughts on Bettendorf are mildly different than his due to that being where I grew up. It’s fine, but kind of going the wrong direction and is mostly attractive to young-er families from what I can tell these days.
Davenport is the only city with a legit walkability component downtown other than getting groceries, in which case good luck being within a mile or two anywhere here. Plenty of eateries, and a growing contingent of shops and places to catch a show. (Racoon Motel and the recently redeveloped Capitol Theater.) Warehouses and older building are being converted to lofts / apartments that surround the district. The guys that wrote The Quiet Place just built an art-house style cinema down there, and the local brewery scene is honestly outstanding. Figge Art Museum is a gem if you are into that sort of thing.
On the Illinois side, no further thoughts on Moline as that’s Andy’s jam.
Agree that East Moline has the most potential, which is super weird as a native to be seeing, but before I bought my place I had been looking near a place called The Bend as its where a bunch of money is being spent to revitalize and lots of opportunity to get in very early on the real estate shift that could happen.
I live in Rock Island, big fan, but its hit and miss with neighborhoods. Happy to share more specificity if you want.
From a golf perspective the best thing I can tell you is that our munis are all extremely playable with some clear duds, but we’re spoiled for choice when you really look at it. There are a few clubs to join if you’re in a position to do so as well.
