Are we an official roost?! Or is there another Pennsylvania New Jersey Delaware group? Electric company?
Since there were multiple niche threads for the area, we consolidated to a Roost specific thread for the region. Welcome to the Electric Phactory!
Congrats gents! I christen thee, The Flying Wasp. May the winds be at our back and sun in our opponents eyes.
Yeah, itâs nice to hear that we are official. Letâs do this, gang!
And as our first order of business I think we might have to consider banning @Randy for hurling The Battery Libel at us like some cheap 4th team Fox NFL color commentator. I expect better from the Big Guy than resorting to such lowest common denominator anti-Philly bashing.
Unacceptable.
Apparently St. Joeâs beat up whatever D2 OH bball program he roots for back in â87 and canât let it go, or so Iâm told.
Let us know if/when youâre going to need assistance (secretary, merch czar, HR, PR, legal, janitorial, graphic design, etc.). Iâm sure we can pull some help together when you get going.
Going to a Bachelor Party in AC in a month and the group (of mostly scramble golfers) are looking to play on the Saturday. Ya know, kill time, hit some shots, drink some beers type of round.
Perusing this thread coupled w/ follow up googling, Iâve come up with 3 choices so far:
- Twisted Dunes - (is it really BYOB?!)
- Mays Landing
- Green Tree golf course
Any further recommendations? Strong points / opinions one way or another?
Feedback welcome!
I love twisted dune and yes it is byob!! No hard liquor. Cans only, 6 per person and canât have a cooler larger than 15 qts.
Never played Green Tree so canât speak to that but I will say Twisted Dune is a tougher test than Mayâs Landing, especially if the wind is up. Really cool course though, doesnât feel like NJ in a weird way. The BYOB is nice but we all know anywhereâs BYOB if you try hard enough. If the group gets pissed losing balls and shooting a million you may try Mayâs Landing but if theyâre good with getting beat up a little and playing something a little different the Dune is your place. Right next door is McCulloughâs Emerald Links though which is a really fun, open course that would suit what it sounds like your group wants well. Only negative for the Dune also is a friend of mine said it was in bad shape last year, no idea the veracity of that though.
Iâve played and would recommend Twisted Dune and McCulloughâs in that order. Both are great courses.
Scotland Run, Ballamor, and Atlantic City Country Club are all owned by the same group. Iâve only played the former, and itâs excellent, so Iâm sure the other two (more exclusive) are even better.
Any Overbrook / St. Davidâs / Llanerch members on here? Iâm moving to Springfield in July and looking to join somewhere relatively close by (Rolling Green obviously is on my radar as well).
Not a member at any of those places, but have played them all. In terms of GOLF, I would rank as follows
Rolling Green
Llanerch
St. Davidâs / Overbrook (tie)
In terms of hang, I would probably rank them
Overbrook
Llanerch
Rolling Green
St. Davidâs
If youâre moving to Springfield, though, I would DEFINITELY lean towards Rolling Green first and Llanerch second
Thanks! Definitely tracks with my understanding of the golf courses (though I have to say St. Davidâs looks gorgeous in @Golfadelphiaâs pictures and is giving me some serious Philly Cricket Wissahickon vibes). Appreciate the insight on the hang rankings, though somewhat less important to me with a young kid at homeâŚwife isnât a huge fan of 4 hour rounds that become 7 hour hangs while sheâs chasing the 1 year old around. ![]()
And yes, RG is the clear top choice from a convenience perspective since Iâll be less than a mile from the course.
Hate that ACCC went fully private this year. Ballamor is an awesome course though
Having played all of these courses many times. I co-sign @missingreens rankings (course & hang).
Iâll add two things. Rolling Green (RG) is a great test - Llanerch (LCC) is a little more forgiving (super easy walk) but still packs a punch 50 yards in. I use to consider RG head shoulders above LCC from a course design perspective, but post Brian Schneiderâs renovation of LCC they have gotten a lot closer. I would still favor RG but both would be delights to call your home club. I believe RG has had Gil Hanse propose a master plan for RG so I would consider that in your due diligence in terms of potential future upgrades (positive) or future capital assessments (negative).
Re: Hang. Overbrook is the mainline booze fest / poker room with a great F&B staff. Llanerach is more of an Irish Catholic booze fest. Both great in their own right, but just wanted to add some context.
If home is springfield, I personally wouldnât really consider St. Davids (I know a couple really good dude there) and itâs fine place to spend the day. But given the strong(er) other options in closer proximity it wouldnât be high on my list personally. If extending in that distance; white manor might be an option and actually quicker to get to depending on where in springfield youâre coming from (quick drive route 1 by pass to providence road). Iâve been a member there for about 6 years (although I am on my way out â moved last year and in the process of joining a club closer to our new house). @JonCheddar If you wanted to connect more on white manor feel free to reach out via DM.
Great additional color! I would say Overbrook is also pretty Irish Catholic
Do not ever play Mays Landing under any circumstances, the only reason to play Green Tree is to experience the Par 6 and because itâs dirt cheap - Twisted is the best public course at the shore. My buddy has worked there for forever - if youâre going then
shoot me a DM and Iâll help you out if you need to bring tequila or fireball out there.
X-Post from the Philly thread:
Wonderful recommendations everybody, we ended up going to Green Tree.
- Yes there is a par 6 holy moly.
- we got drunk
- we had a blast
We drove an RV down from Boston for the weekend and it was a hoot taking up 4 parking spots in the lot! Most of the 8 ppl who played do not golf more than a few times a year, if at all, so we played a scramble and they couldnât have been happier. I looked like a hero for choosing the right spot but it was really all of you.
Thanks again everybody
