Roll Call: Colorado -- @PJM v Colorado Golfers, @PJM only half guilty

Have 1 more spot tomorrow morning at Wellshire at 7 for 9 holes. Anyone else interested?

I have an 8:54am tee time next Friday at Riverdale dunes and 2 open spots. Let me know if you want to join.

@Randy how many of us can you get backstage for Iration at Red Rocks in October?
On a serious note, any interest in doing a golf/concert doubleheader? @Pooshdaddy, any chance you’d be able to make time to play?

Would be VERY interested in this. Can’t wait for the show.

Who’s ready for a cold, overcast Memorial Day golf outing??

Spent Monday at Ballyneal. That place is a religious experience.
The best golf day I’ve ever had in my life.

Last Friday @tylersucks and I were talking about the Monday round and matches that need to be played.

If there are multiple matches between the two groups that need to be played and we the have back to back tee times we thought it could be a good idea to switch groups if needed.

I still have ~4 matches that need to be played and think some of the guis are going to be on the earlier group Monday.

Also, open to criticism if this idea is stupid.

I feel like your post isn’t doing it justice. Can we get some details on your trip??

Here’s what I posted on GolfWRX about it:

My level of excitement would be comparable to arriving at a theme park as a child and having your parents tell you they also rented the whole place out. With as much as I had built it up after knowing I’d be playing since April, it still exceeded all of my expectations. Our host wanted us to get a full day to experience everything so we played 18, did the Mulligan course, and played 18 on the practice green. I also made sure we got some milkshakes and they were as good as I was told. I wanted to stay until the sun went down, but had to concede to leave early enough so the whole drive back wasn’t in the dark.

Beyond everything that’s great about the opportunity to play private golf, Ballyneal was exceptional for making enjoyable and interesting golf the #1 priority. I think because of the location and reputation it lends itself to being the perfect place for people who really, I mean really, love golf to go. Hands down the best day of golf in my life so far.

And here’s some extra details:
The putting course (The Commons) - Walking up to a practice green that my buddy pointed out, “Is larger than both of our home’s land plots combined” at 1.1 acres was a funny revelation. It’s a waterfall putting surface that goes down 5 tiers and is 110 yards from end to end. Unknown to us, this was rolling much slower than the actual course to allow for the wild slopes to not send you ball down the bottom every time. Every afternoon they also set out cast turtles as tee markers for an 18 hole putting course. We played whoever got down in the fewest had to go first on the next hole. 3 putting from one end to the farthest flag on the other is a challenge I couldn’t complete, uphill or downhill.

The 18 hole course - We learned walking out to the first tee that the club hosted a tournament last week and the greens were rolled pretty aggressively. Because Holyoke has had an unusual week of rain recently the entire course was playing as green as it ever had. The member let us know that usually you can hear the ball rolling on the greens because of how dry it gets in the windy chop hills on summer afternoons. We definitely didn’t experience that as the course was softer than usually while still providing tons of roll out. In an additional stroke of luck winds only got to 10mph at most and were helping coming in on 17 and 18 that usually play as beastly par 4’s, 480 and 460 respectively and both uphill. With no tee markers you can play wherever you feel on each hole and usually trade length on par 3s as they can play 50-100 yards differently depending on where you want to tee. We tipped out 15 at 240 yards. Luckily it’s downhill and into a huge bowl. I’ve never played a golf course with as much undulation in my life. Like David McLay Kidd said in the Oregon TS series, golf is a lot more exciting when the ball does most of it’s movement on the ground. Huge kickers, chutes, and funnels to collections areas are in play on every shot. A lot of the time the best shot is landing it 20 yards from the pin. Absolutely the most mentally stimulating course I’ve ever played. Also, the native is playable for the most part. If you focus on tracking your ball in the air you can always find it no matter where it goes and it should still be playable.

The par 3 course (Mulligan Course) - This is named after a former caddie who actually had the last name of Mulligan, I believe his story was featured in the first edition of the golfers journal. 12 holes ranging from 80-190 yards with the most wild greens. Tiers that are 5-10+ feet in difference. Luckily they were rolling at the speed of the practice green so it wasn’t a nightmare. We all threw a wedge, short iron, and a putter into one bag and took turns carrying it from hole to hole. Taking wild lines on the greens for fun and playing holes with just the putter made this course feel like an amusement park for us. I wanted to keep playing this course until there wasn’t enough light anymore.

Everything else - The restaurant was fantastic, although they were only serving a buffet that day. They had buffalo wraps, potato salad, sweet potato fries, sliders. Other than the sliders, everything else was probably the best version of that food I’d ever had. Their chocolate milkshakes were amazing. I’m glad I was told to get them by a few people after I told them I was going. The pro shop has everything you could ever want. I picked up a few hats, a towel, and a free stamped divot repair tool.

I would say that everyone probably has a preference for where the best golf is to be had. I’ve only played on the coast in California so far and I would still rank the sand hills of Nebraska and the chop hills of Holyoke above that. Bandon may change my mind though. For now, Ballyneal was golf heaven on earth for me. I told the guys it was going to be the 2nd best day of my life, behind my wedding, for the foreseeable future.

Possibly have an extra spot on Memorial Day at Inverness if anyone is interested, 3:39 tea time

@PJM You able to join on Friday and be our 4th?

Hey @UncleWillie, I won’t be able to join on Friday.

I do have two spots open on Monday at 12:30pm at Common Ground, might be past the worst of the weather by then.

Anyone have an ins for getting a time and/or match at City Park? Signed up for the Denver Am and have never played the new course. Or the old course.

If you’re a single or twosome it’s not too difficult to get on City Park. People cancel a day to a day and a half ahead so just need to check throughout the day for cancellations the day before. Getting a foursome is tough though. You pretty much have to pay $20 for the loyalty card that lets you book 14 days ahead and then do it immediately when tee times open up.

Gimme dat 12:30, I’ll take one.

I have the Denver loyalty card and can book tee times at City Park two weeks out. Highly recommend that loyalty card…only $20. I’ll book a time for Friday afternoon evening on 6/10 how does that sound? I’m playing in the City Am as well and need to play it again before the tourney

I know the 7:00am Monday at Walnut Creek tee time is booked up and I think I have 2 open spots still for the 7:12am…

Anybody interested in those? I want to make sure I release them in time if we can’t get it filled

That sounds awesome, count me in, thanks @UncleWillie!

Fiancée and I will be in town July 4th weekend doing some wedding stuff but it looks like I may have some time to kill on both the 2nd and the 3rd. I’ve been wanting to get out to Common Ground and her mom also lives walking distance from Willis Case. As it gets closer and I get more details I’ll see if anyone in here is interested in setting something up
