Pepsi, Coke or RC?
What is your take on “Ruffled Feathers” ?
CC: @TeddyPargame
(Btw you’re doing great @Gibbler , we’re pumped to have you join the Refuge, and let’s play some golf together soon)
@Gibbler, a lot of the events stuff is behind the paywall so that may be why it’s a little confusing.
Here’s a link to what the Chicagoland specifically has setup to date.
you’re doing it right!
@PTM So first off… Dr. Pepper is better hands down than Coke or Pepsi.
@TCRBrad I actually joined the Arcis thing at Ruffled Feathers this year as it’s 5 minutes from my house and a few buckets of balls make it worth while. Now the actual course, I’ll say Ruffled Feathers has a few of the most unique golf holes I’ve ever seen, I still haven’t decided if that’s a good thing or bad thing, just depends on how I play that day. Holes 14 - 16 are some of the strangest golf holes I’ve ever seen and are the type of holes you can either walk off 3 under or 10 over any given day.
Thanks for the Chicagoland spreadsheet, yeh I know there’s a paywall with The Nest membership which I think I’ll join. Just figured I’d check out The Refuge a little bit before diving into a membership.
Looking forward to hopefully getting out and playing some with y’all (I’m from Louisiana), unfortunately none of my friends up here are near the golf junkie that I am.
Best stops after a bad round at RF or Cog is Jimbo’s pizza or lemon tree
Passed my first test.
He checks out. He can stay.
Oohhhhhh trust me…you’re in the right place
We’re golfing Saturday at a classic Langford & Moreau course juuuussst outside Chicagoland. You’re welcome.
@Gibbler now that the golf season has started keep checking this thread a few times a week for posts about events or guys looking to go out and play any given weekend. I’d say every weekend day in season there are a couple foursomes of all Refugees out in the Chicagoland area at a given time.
@EConroy419 That sounds perfect, I’m down to get out there on the course with a bunch of golf nuts like me and have a good time.
@PTM I’d love to get out there this weekend at that Langford & Moreau (Kankakee?) but have to travel down to LA for the weekend but will take you up on that offer next weekend.
@kmcswain Lemon Tree is a weekly staple in my life, never been to Jimbo’s but I’ll add it to the list next time I’m looking for some pizza.
@TCRBrad Thanks for the welcome, glad I stumbled across a place with a bunch of golf sickos like myself.
There is no good pizza in Lemont - it’s all Ok pizza.
What do you guys think of Big Run? I think it has great bones, but it is go overgrown with trees. Needs someone to dump $10m in it and never care to make it back.
How would everyone split 10 rounds between Ruffled Feathers and Seven Bridges? 12-0 Ruffled Feathers for me.
This is one of the things I dream of doing if I won the lottery. Is there a local public track with a better collection of par 3s?
Now this is a spicy take. 1 RF - 11 SB for me. You could say Ruffled Feathers lives up to its namesake for me.
I agree there isn’t any great pizza but Turnabout in Lemont is usually pretty solid.
Don’t they keep saying Big Run is going to turn into a housing development? I’ve heard that for every year for the past few years. I personally like Big Run just due to the elevation changes, it’s boring to play the same flat housing development courses over and over.
I’d say you got to split it half / half. I think Ruffled Feathers is more interesting but the conditions are usually awful compared to Seven Bridges. Hopefully that changes but usually you know you’re playing RF when you hit it in a bunker and there’s no sand and a little pond in there or your ball gets airborne any time you try to putt.
I haven’t thought about conditions. It’s been 10-15 years since I’ve played it. It used to be kept in pretty decent shape. When I first played it they were charging as much as Cog was getting for Dubs. Both were $125.
