Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 1)

Oh yeah - the place stinks but in March when it’s $30 and there are limited options I’ll play anywhere.

Anyone have a free Handicap software? Since there isn’t a chicago golf show again I may have to find a new solution

Currently looking to get out in a course next Saturday… hoping this snow goes away by then? Who knows… all I know is Waveland is calling my name

Apologies if it’s already been discussed or if it’s already well-known, but has anyone listened to the Fire Pit pod on Canal Shores from January? Canal Shores Teams Up With Kemper Sports

I connected with Jason Way back in I want to say 2015, and started doing clean up at the course a lot of weekends. That first year it was me and Jason and maybe one or two other people most of the time, and we cleaned up most of the 12th hole by ourselves. He got me on to Kingsley Club a short time after that. By the time my son was born in 2017, the number of volunteers had grown substantially, and between all of the help he had and none of the time I had on weekends anymore, either 2017 or 2018 was when I stopped volunteering, and I fell out of touch with Jason.

When I heard Matty say that Jason was sentenced to 11 years for drug trafficking, I literally couldn’t believe it. I had to listen to that part 3 times just to comprehend it. I’m still having a hard time squaring that guy that I worked alongside with, with a guy doing time for drug trafficking. I feel a little sick for his boys.

Anyways, maybe it’s old news in 2022, but just wondering if anyone else knows Jason or worked out at Canal Shores and knew about this development.

I was on my way to the Pitchfork Festival in 2018 when my friend (who is sadly no longer with us) sent me the text with the link to the DOJ site announcing his conviction. Blew my mind. Sounds like he just brokered the deal, then everyone else rolled on him. I had probably just played with him either that summer or the summer before in a morning round at Kingsley. I don’t know if you ever met Peter Korbakes though Jason, but I’m pretty sure he’s still in touch and has gone to visit him a number of times.

If you’re playing at Mudness…let’s talk :+1:
Things moved QUICKLY from 2015 to the present, and it ends with us being able to host the War at the Shores yearly.

Can someone drop a summary of this in my DMs?

Genuinely curious, why all the hate for Seven Bridges? I’ve always enjoyed it. My only gripe would be that it’s probably overpriced, but I only play it once or twice a season so it’s not a big deal to me.

Part of it is just that I had a bad experience there, so I have an irrational hatred for it. I had played 36 in Indiana the day before (Kampen Course and Coyote Crossing) and had probably the best day driving the ball in my life, only to turn around a play a course the next day that constantly took driver out of my hands. Also, really stupid stuff like on I think the 10th hole? Whatever the par 5 is where the fairway just ends for no apparent reason right about where drives are likely to end up, before restarting after about 20 yards of rough. Just really stupid. So it has kind of become the archetype of courses in the area that I hate. And of course now I live like five minutes away from it.

I moved back to Michigan a few years ago, otherwise I probably would have still been playing there and caught wind of it.

Gotcha. I guess I enjoy it more for the same reason that you don’t - taking driver out of your hands, plenty of awkward and borderline punitive spots out there to try and wiggle out of. I’ll agree 10 sucks, super uncomfy and no idea why the fairway is divided by rough like that. I think I lost 3 balls on that hole one time lol.

Because the course is a farce. There are at least ten (10) bridges on site. I won’t stand for it.

Honestly I’ve noticed this before and I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t bug me.

now I’m laughing thinking about course names. I think the most apropos is lost marsh.

Honest course names is a hilarious idea. Off the top of my head:

Seven Bridges → Ten Bridges
Sydney Marovitz → Waveland
Lost Marsh → Lost Marsh
Harborside → The Landfill Club

What are the others???

Ravisloe - Arbor Club
Calumet Country Club - Future site of Amazon
Chicago Golf Club - Keep Out

I’m not very good at this.

Harborside as The Landfill Club is spot on haha also the advertising of the city skyline view at that place is a sham. If you disregard the surrounding industrial wasteland and the smog is light, you can kinda see the skyline
