Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the Chicago Outfit an active criminal organization? Would be kind of like naming it Gangster Disciples or Vice Lords (side note: alternate name for RGC?).
I think it’s kind of corny, but if we’re putting it on merch etc., I’m also not sure that’s a flag you want to fly even as a joke.
I had a delightful time out there today, largely in part to your valuable guidance around the track. I think we should pursue our invention idea of putting “sub-freezing” technology under greens in order to achieve firm and fast conditions. I can’t wait to #GetInvolved going forward.
P.S. Much like your course management recommendations, your lunch rec was spot on too. Fry the Coop was absolutely fire
I went through the willow hill lights last night! I’ve never played there so I was mostly fixated on trying to scout the course in the dark. I’m super curious about how the entire course property sits so much higher than the surrounding area. Also saw a lot of heavy machinery and dirt piles; looks like some renovations?
The GF was annoyed that I was giving the course all my attention… the lights were cool too i guess
That would be a trash dump. And the machinery/dirt has been around for ages. It’s like they’ve been perpetually planning on upgrading but just never get around to it.
I
Well I have a personal philosophy of only writing down circles in December, it’s good for the soul. But if I have to report, I think I went par-bogey-par on that stretch.
All I know is that @baldvinny had a sick punch shot through a window on 12 and his robot push cart wrecked his rig going up the hill on 13
They are actually moving dirt now. Lots of changes this summer. Whoever got the paver brick contract is having a very nice holiday season. Last time I was there it seemed like they’d made significant progress on another hole heading SE from the 9th green. They also moved a bunch of dirt behind 4 tee / 6 green / 7 tee. I’d guess they’re going to take the far end of the driving range area and put a hole there.
I love Willow Hill. Pretty good course for being on a old landfill. It can be a little soggy up there, the clay capped sub surface doesn’t allow water to drain quite right. If they leveled off the tee boxes it would be much better, but who doesn’t love a good down hill - side hill tee shot. Some of the green slopes are wildly undulating, not offering a lot of pin-able areas. Its mostly open early, greens are decent and wildly sloping, fairways are decent, wildly sloping, lots of moggles, its hard to lose a ball. it has a grass range. The new ownership is constantly making things better.
I’ve talked to ownership, Allegedly they are building another nine around the outside, and some kind of sports dome…
It would be a nice spot for a small informal group meet up, big patio and a bar with cold domestics, very casual.
I’ve had the same experience with the folks running WH. I didn’t play there as much this year, but would often run up for an early AM 9. Agree on the tee boxes; need a lot of work. They did some work on a few of the bunkers, too. I’ve seen those turn into temporary water hazards quick.
A few years ago when they were struggling, they bought a bunch of imperial hat overruns with logos from a mix of private and public big name courses from all over the country. It was strange seeing them for sale…did pick up a Tobacco Road hat. From the willow hill pro shop.
I’ve also been locked inside the gates before. The guy who worked there years ago was kind of an uptight ass and probably just dipped and locked us in.
Spent a lot of my early golf career up there, for better or worse.
I’m gonna leave this poll open until Thursday night. Just got an email from @Double_Bogey_Dave that NLU brass wants a logo so once we have the name we can get rolling with that.
I was like normal, bogey-double-bogey, so all in all not bad. @Duff-Daddy hit the green in 2 on 10, the first time I’ve seen that done, and made an easy 2 putt bird(might have been par)and I think went par-par 11 and 12.
If he wasn’t such a nice guy I’d fucking hate him…
At the end of the day I’m not that invested in what my internet friends call our make believe golf team, so it’s all good.
One season a million years ago some kids that I coached in soccer had an indoor team and needed an adult chaperone, so I said I’d do it. These were high school kids from Barrington playing in a coed league against teams from other high schools. I get to the first game and look at the schedule to see what time and which field we’re on.
There’s teams from Elgin and Crystal Lake and Palatine, etc. But no Barrington.
And then I saw it.
Prairie Ridge vs Sorry About Your Daughter.
So I’ll be ok with Second City. I won’t have to explain that to any parents…
