Brad makes good points. Schaumburg is an awesome place, I’ve only played two of the nines and need to go back one day for all 27.
I’m a fan of both, but I think they’re very different golf experiences. MP is incredibly challenging (and often frustrating) pretty much the entire round, as someone on the higher end of hcp. But love getting my ass kicked by that course.
Schaumburg has some challenging holes for sure, but it’s much more accessible for a broader range of golfers IMO. There might be a couple yawners out there, but a solid 27 overall. I’d say it’s on the higher end in terms of value for the walking price, and is typically in great shape.
Schaumburg is fantastic but I will play Sunset Valley (and Heritage Oaks this weekend) over it because driving by ORD nowadays is miserable with the construction.
@EConroy419 - Gonna need you to talk to your people and get some merch with that old logo that’s on the faded shirt in the entry way.
The merch game is super weak there. It’s a shame.
Smelling a home and home and home duel brewing here…
I’m more excited about playing Schaumburg on Friday now. Brad was singing its praises so it was on my 2021 list.
Got tournament and Baer if anyone has tips.
Renovation expanded the greens and connected more tees to greens. A few slippery slopes in a few spots, but VERY playable greens.
It’s not THAT tricky of a test, but there’s just enough out there to cause problems if you miss your target/play too aggressively.
But the Par 3’s are all fun (and not too tough), Par 5’s have great variety and most are gettable, they renovated 12 & 13 (Baer) to create some REALLY cool visual intimidation. Just a delightfully enjoyable round of golf.
I love/hate the 2nd hole on Tournament. Depending on pin placement, you really don’t want to find yourself chipping back toward the water.
Agree the par 3s are fun. I think my favorite is 25, downhill over the creek (that’s on the Players 9), but probably the trickiest par 3 green is 6 on Tourney. There’s a real fun two tier situation there.
I’d say Schaumburg is clearly better than SV. MP is different I think kind of. It’s done a lot with very little as far as land and space. Way more land movement to play with at Schaumburg from the original design.
Also, I’d say that the preserve at Oak Meadows deserves a spot on the best recent renovations.
All this Schaumburg talk. Booked Sat 8:20 spot for Tourney/Baer. One spot left at that time.
SV, then MP, then Schaumburg.
I haven’t played Schaumburg since they finished the third 9, but I do recall that they had excellent sand for a public course.
Gonna need some support behind this take…
i got a good sand guy
Does anyone want to play Prairie Landing Saturday at 10:30?
Hmm… I find that SV balances the interesting with the playable. MP can feel too punishing at times (the lay-up shot for the 1st hole comes to mind), but it is the most interesting architecturally. MP also loses points for its pace of play issues. Schaumburg I know the least, but I’m just giving my take after playing it once, so take with a grain of salt.
Prairie Landing is the better than all three, but that’s neither here nor there
Playing Prairie Landing next Friday at 12:40pm with @Pinehurts and @baldvinny. One spot still left online if anyone wants to get out.
You 3 are always playing weekday golf
