Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 1)

If an Iowan sitting around an 18 handicap would be welcome, I’m in. Be most interested in 10/9.

I’m very in on this. October would work for me. I’ve got company in town for the September dates.

Oh. 18th greenlight too now. Would maybe need a ride from northside.

Would be in on 10/10.

@TheAbeFroman - didn’t this lead to full foursomes each attempting this putt multiple times to the point that groups on 18 fairway would just hit into the green to speed people up?

Only marked where he putted from and same pin on Monday after the BMW. Didn’t stop people from trying to replicate the putt for the next few weeks. Not sure about hitting into groups but wouldn’t be shocked at the same time.

Looking for some help guis… I’m driving from Chicago up to Arcadia next Thursday and trying to get a great round at somewhere new in on the way up and/or back on Sunday. I’ve already played Warren Course, Pilgrilm’s Run, Harbor Shores, Mines, both Arcadia courses and unfortunately probably don’t have the clout to pull Kingsley, Crystal Downs, Dunes Club or Lost Dunes… any suggestions or must try options?

Right now short list I am trying to decide among is:
American Dunes
Diamond Springs
Tullymore
Manistee National
Sandy Pines
Champion Hill
Pinecroft
Hemlock

Beeches and Hawks Head in south haven… beeches is my favorite strapped style course to play in south haven area

Just played Pinecroft and Champion Hill this summer. Really enjoyed both, especially for the money.
Also they don’t sell beer or anything so BYOB is allowed.

We played Arcadia South and one of the Crystal Mountain courses too, and I’d put PC and CH ahead of the Crystal Mountain course.

Diamond Springs is fantastic and a tremendous value! Haven’t played any of these others yet so can’t comment on them. But honestly highly doubt you’ll regret it if you choose DS. Manistee Golf and CC is also a fun shorter course right on the big lake that’s only 20 minutes south of Arcadia and can be played for as low as $25. Some really fun and scenic holes there. Also, Cafe 1907 in Manistee has great breakfast.

I second Diamond Springs. It’s such a great course and it’s a steal for the price

Everyone has the clout for a phone call. Within two weeks, it’s worth a shot. It’s basically public if you hit the right window on the schedule and get a caddy.

I third Diamond Springs. One of the best value tracks I’ve played & very walkable. Harbor Shores or American Dunes if price isn’t a concern

Hey all, DC based NLU-er headed to Chicago for our 16th annual Ryder Cup style match play event this fall and looking for course recommendations. We’ve already played both Harborside courses, Cog Hill #3, and Thunderhawk in previous years. We have Cog Hill #2 lined up for day 1, but trying to nail down our course for day two. Have some high HCPs, so Dubsdread is out. Think I’ve narrowed it down to Ravisloe, Mt. Prospect, or Cantigny. Any strong thoughts from that list or other suggestions?

Depending on where you are staying, Kankakee Elks is a tremendous value. I believe we’ve debated if it counts as “Chicagoland” but it’s damn close… well not literally close to anything… but it’s close to the metropolitan area boundaries.

Your list is good tho. Highlands of Elgin or Shepherds Crook are other favorites that are further out.

Awesome, thanks. We’re staying in River North and hoping to keep it to < 1hr each way, but thanks for flagging the Elks.

Stoatin Brae would be my rec, slightly out of the way (just East of Kalamazoo) but not too bad.

Assuming you’re not playing it the same day as Ravines, I’d say Ravisloe. Probably the most friendly course of the three for high handicaps and you can avoid the traffic you’d have going to MP or Cantigny.
