Was out there a few weeks ago. Was pretty impressed for the cost. Best part was we basically had the course to ourselves. Some fun green complexes - big premium on driving accuracy. Missing fairways means you’re punching out 99% of the time.
Played Chevy Chase Saturday morning. It was in really good shape and had some really strategic holes. #4 specifically stood out, with a huge dispersion in scores based on which side of the fairway our group managed to layup to. The approach from the left half is frightening at best over the marsh, but it’s a pretty comfy shot you can land anywhere from the right half.
Found that to be the case frequently out there. Lots of pin deception too, where a slope in front only lets you see half the pin, making front pins look like back pins a lot. We found ourselves shooting and reshooting yardages convincing ourselves we had it right.
Little steep at $94 to ride but would highly recommend if you can get out there at some off-peak times. That being said, I think I had more fun there than at either of the Harborside courses ~~~ducks
Did I read that right, $94? Like 94 American dollars?
94 doll hairs. Something like $72 to walk and $22 for the cart.
What are peoples thoughts on Dubsdread? Played it yesterday for the second time (first in decent weather). $160+ to get beat up but hey, you get a free bucket of balls.
Would I play it for $160 as a single? No. Would I play it from the back tees with a group of golf sickos? Probably once a year, but not more than that.
I haven’t played it in years. I’d like to play it now that I (sometimes) have an idea of where I’m going to hit it.
Don’t do it
I missed the meet up, I’d go get slaughtered some day, still never played.
I’d probably pick it over Harborside but yeah, my group was like ‘we don’t need to come here again’. We do however need to finish the back nine at Ravines, we were rained out in May
Edit: Harborside twilight is a good deal but man is pace terrible
I got v lucky last September. Managed the first available twilight tee time, played solo, somehow wide open, and got around in 1:45.
Kinda shocked they’re still getting that rate at Dubs with no PGA Tour draw anymore. When I first started playing out here, Dubs was $125, and so was Ruffled Feathers. Not anymore.
Dollar tree Pinehurst of Midwest.
Just looked at the course in 18birdies and it looks like every fairway is 15 yards wide with overgrown trees…siiiick
They’re still paying for the Rees-toration since the USGA took a hard pass on hosting an Open there following his ‘work’
I’m not necessarily surprised they’re charging it. I’m surprised people are paying it.
Okay guys, played Mount Prospect this afternoon. Won’t pretend to be an architecture expert in the slightest, but hope someone can point me to the appeal of it. Is it just because there aren’t any courses that have greens with backboards like there? Conditions were great…I think I had two of the longest 4irons I’ve ever hit today. Greens, aside from the normal public golf ballmarks everywhere, were quick and very consistent hole to hole. I just lost count at how many times I was rejected from a green worse than a freshmen asking out the prom queen, but half of those were still landing 20 FT from the pin…just a couple feet off the green. All the zones in each green were fun…just felt like the whole thing would have been so much better if each green were twice their size so you weren’t asking to hit the ball into a hula hoop. By the end I kept thinking “well, there’s no point playing center of the green because you might be just as ef’d there too”. Am I missing something?
Playing there Wednesday with the Chasing Scratch guys. Excited to meet them, very nervous to play dubs. Don’t have enough game to enjoy it.
As a warm up, Tuesday is at Stonewall Orchard. Haven’t played it in years.
Oh baby I’m here for this discussion.
I’m in line at Meijer, but when I get home allow me to fire off ALL the takes.
Also…Swing Masters is a VIBE (CC: @BadBrad )
Nice people over there at swing masters. Gotta watch out for returning fire if you hit the rims on the Mini Cooper.
If you like obscure driving ranges this is #1 followed by the sycamore family fun center. I was there on Sunday and laced a stinger through the middle window of an mid 90s Astro Van (they also have batting cages)
