How much did the fitting cost you and do they give you any break on the purchase if you do it then?
The fitting was built into the lesson and practice package I had bought, but I think normally they’re like $100-150? I don’t know if they roll that into a purchase if you buy it directly. I ended up going elsewhere to buy my driver because at the end of the session I wasn’t going to pull the trigger right then and there, and it was going to take several weeks for them to get it anyway. But the price he quoted me was regular retail.
I got fitted into a 5w in Jan at the downtown CC.
For the North/NW burbs guys, I got fitted for both irons and woods at Terra Cotta Academy in Crystal Lake. The guy seemed knowledgeable but slightly disinterested, they had a really solid selection of clubs, and it was $100/hour that didn’t go towards the purchase (I was charged retail pricing).
really? that’s interesting and great. did they have a lot to hit?
Seems to be the deal at Terra Cotta. Mike and Jim are pretty passionate about junior golf lessons which is great but i have gotten limited interest in helping me with fitting/ lessons.
They oddly are also really happy to handle my warrantee issues with Ping clubs as well and when i ask about a fitting for other clubs its almost like i have to sell them on the idea.
I saw Jim right when I started to take the game up. Nice guy, great facility. He’s a quick fix guy, wants to put duct tape on your existing swing. I stopped going after two lessons because he wasn’t interested in fixing OTT, just making it work for me.
I have little doubt that my daughter will end up there for lessons though.
Is French Lick Ross course worth the 5.5 hour drive? $75 late April rate…
Yes.
Full disclosure: I’ve never been and don’t have an opinion on the course, but fully support your dedication to the game
I would agree the practice range is great and if I left MCC would probably do their membership and if I could get either of my 10 year olds into golf I would put them there instead of in the golf program at MCC.
@chockfullofthat you have me interested. My only concern is a tipi seems less than ideal to protect from bear attacks. Hope they are still sleeping in April. Also “shared baths” sounds like my kind of experience.
Never played but if I’m going that far I would want to tack on the Pete Dye course and Victoria National (+1.5 hours).
I’m also debating a Whistling Straights run this year to check that box but acknowledge its not ideal with the Ryder Cup this year.
Yes. The FL courses are very nice.
Fittings are so personal, two people will each have a different experience with the same fitter. I had one of the worst fittings ever at club champ deerfield, I have had fittings from several people in the Chicagoland area and I have never been truly blown away. Chicago needs Ian and Matt from TXG
No bears in Indiana according to google so that’s no issue. You’d be welcome to meet up with us (just 2) but the scope of the trip for me is going to be just the Ross course. Gotta save on cash for a SV trip I have booked in May.
Speaking of Kohler…was thinking River Course end of season.
Cool. Might tag along will keep you posted.
Might do The Fort instead of playing the Ross Course 3 times. Never done a Pete Dye course.
Booked Kankakee 10:30am Sunday—currently playing as a single if anyone cares to make the drive to join.
