Or you can take the Icarito line- and play down 10 on 18. That’s my play.
I didn’t say I could hit it straight.
I goat hump at impact so I usually pull hook it into the trees.
Anyone here snatch up the first tee times at Baylands this week? If you have an open slot Wed-Fri I would love to join.
Strong takes all around on Presidio. Now I am really looking forward to playing it. Any course that spurs this much reaction is worth checking out once. Not sure how but my buddy has already prepaid for our tee times and it’s only $65, which for a Saturday aint bad anywhere really. Looking forward to reporting back on my experience.
Yeah, I played it many years back, so before any improvements. But, if it is still $100+ I’m still not sure of the value, especially if you are in the east bay, there are good options and much less price.
That said, for folks living in the city it is probably a good option and it sounds like one can get deals for less than $100. I should also give it another chance.
Presidio is actually one of my favorites, though I could see where some people might not like it, and it’s definitely pricey for non-city card folks. I just really enjoy the setting and there’s enough variation on the holes to make it interesting.
Pace should be ok. Last time I was there, we played in under 4 hours, but had the marshal ask us to pick it up multiple times. On 15, he actually came up to us while we were waiting on a group and said, “I just told the group in front of you to play faster, so I need you guys to be ready to play faster as well.” Refreshing actually.
11 is so fun when the pin is on the middle/back left and you can hit the middle of the green and watch it funnel down.
I feel like every time I play I get that dang front pin that’s impossible to get to haha
Don’t have any early morning rounds, but do have an open spot at 4:54 today. $25 if anyone wants to join.
Have to chime in about Presidio- noting that the negative comments are opinions, mine is that it’s a fun golf course, generally in good shape, with a good vibe, in a great location.
I don’t think it’s overly penal at all. Yes the front can be narrow, but you can also hit 4 iron off every tee and be fine. There is definitely some quirk to it, but overall a fun design.
Is it over priced, yes, but not terrible at $87 for a weekend city resident. If you don’t live in SF, it’s probably a play once in a very long while type of place, but for those that live in SF it’s a really good option to have. And for those coming from out of town on travel, a good SF public golf experience.
@thomaschambers and I are playing Baylands at 4:30 on Friday if anyone wants to join. $29/pp.
My $0.02 on Presidio. For being in the middle of a city like SF, it’s a cool public track and we’re lucky to have it. BUT, for me, even as a city resident, it never made it into my rotation because of Harding. I was in the city for the last couple of years, I played Presidio once, and Harding countless times. Harding is a better course, better conditioned, and often a little bit cheaper time-for-time.
Also - I know this is a bit of a stretch - playing Lincoln kind of scratched the same itch as Presidio for me, but was much cheaper and easier to pop out on. Well, as long as it wasn’t in the winter when Lincoln in a mud puddle.
Who wants to hit 4 iron off the tee all day?
New to the community. Typically play Corica Park in Alameda, but scatter all over the bay. Playing Pebble for the first time Saturday and Bodega Harbour/Northwood in a few weeks. Can’t wait.
Has this group discussed or shown interest in hosting an NLU/NIT qualifier event? I host tournaments through my local club and wanted to know if there was enough interest here to throw something together. If not for this year, next.
Agree. This site is still called “NO Laying Up,” right?
Would LOVE to - and would be happy to help if needed. I feel like we’ve got good enough numbers up here - though I know a number of the guys travelled to Rustic to play in the SoCal qualifier.
Welcome!
Well we had a pretty solid crew all lined up for a Northwood outing that covid ruined. Not sure it would have had a NIT spot, although given the current state of things I’m sure it could have.
But yeah. At the moment, mostly small group meetups. Don’t be afraid to reach out. We’re prob one of the most active Roll Call threads on the refuge.
There’s a get together, I think, on July 12 that @GremlinGolfer was putting together? I had to bail as I’m luckily playing Pasatiempo the day prior but I wonder if we can make that a qualifying event?
I’ll let him make it official but pretty sure the Oakmore outing is off…
