Played there once a few years ago. A buddy won greens fees for 4 in some fundraiser auction. It was an interesting course, challenging for sure, especially with the wind we were seeing that day. Hole 18 is basically a ? shape which was interesting. Conditions were surprisingly bad when we were there, lots of dead/hardpan areas in the fairway, and a lot of GUR. Hopefully not still the case now.
Haven’t played there. Interested to hear details of the membership deal though?
What a great morning at PG Muni. Had an inauspicious start with a double on 1 and a bogey on 2. Then, went birdie, bogey on both par 5s, birdie, par, bogey for a front side 39. Then, I surrounded a birdie with some great par saves and found myself 3 over through 15 (1 under on the back). Didn’t really feel the pressure, but limped to the finish with bogeys on 2 of the last 3. Still, ended up with a 75, beating my best round by 1 shot. This was even better since I’ve been struggling to break 90 the last month or so.
Drive on 4.
The great view on the 12th tee.
I love this lighthouse.
Finally made the move and I’m out here full time now. I’m in the Mission, and stumbled my way in to a free '95 Mercedes with 220k miles on it to get me out of the city and to wherever you all are playing.
I’m playing Corica Park South on Sunday. Anyone got some insight? This is my first round since February, so I’m beyond ecstatic.
Welcome!
Re: Corica - have fun. It’s a great course. I’ve only played it a couple times, so I’m sure others can throw out some better advice, but here are a couple thoughts:
- The par fives are really score-able, I try to be aggressive on them.
- Be wary of the water on 10 - you can’t really see it, but it’s easy to hit through the fairway into it.
- Take extra club on 16, everyone seems to come up short.
Come down and play Baylands some time. My dog and I are regulars there, happy to grab a game.
Absolutely. I’m in!
Another Q: Should I join NCGA, in addition to getting a resident card?
Again, probably others with better opinions on this.
I joined, because I wanted to keep a handicap (joined “E-club of SF”) and wanted to start dabbling in competitive golf.
In terms of other benefits, the only one’s I’ve made use of:
- Discounted rates at Poppy Hills & Poppy Ridge
- Recent discount at Pebble / Spyglass
Other stuff they do:
- Member outings at local private clubs (Lake Merced, Stanford, Stonebrae, etc)
- Bigger trips (Bandon, Scotland, etc)
Corica S is a refugee favorite. Front nine is a bit more open than the back. Some tee shots you won’t really know what to do the first time around.
That’s golf. As Giles mentioned - the tee on 10 is a good example. Error down the left. The short par 4 2nd looks easy until you get to the green. Undulations and speed make 4 a good score which is common throughout. Number 3 is almost always a better approach form the right side of the fairway. Gluck on 11, the long par 3 has eaten my lunch at the turn every friggin round.
Awesome course. Have fun. Very walkable.
Unrelated to this season it’s one of the few in the area that drains properly in the winter.
39 is a great score for the front 7!
Make sure you get to La Taqueria now that they’re open again. And Dianda’s Bakery or Mitchell’s Ice Cream for dessert.
@greebs and I played 36 at peacock in marin yesterday. It’s our local course and we’ve both played it enough that there’s nothing new there for us but it was a fun day despite me scoring 10 strokes above my index both rounds.
Unfortunately we noticed the course is doing a terrible job enforcing proper distancing and mask wearing. There were many people, typically 25-30 year old dude bros who weren’t wearing masks, standing next to eachother talking face to face, pulling balls out of the cub despite the thing attached to the stick and handshaking on 18. We even saw the county sheriff there observing and i hope they don’t reverse course on golf because idiots can’t handle the responsibility.
What Mark said for sure. In addition, our second round was a textbook example of why folks like me get upset with PGA players like J.B. Holmes and Bryson who take forever to play. The foursome in front of us would wait on a par-4 until the next group was on the green before teeing off and then DISCUSS the hole and the right way to play it, etc., and then … hit the ball off the planet. I don’t begrudge them for not being great golfers but the slow play was so stupid and unnecessary. And it’s clearly learned behavior. They had zero idea that they were doing anything wrong (and no marshall said squat to them which is it’s own issue.)
I’m considered a “young” executive (under 40), so I am unsure of the cost of membership if you fall outside of that range but the high level details are:
*$0 initiation (I believe only thru the end of the month
- $305/month for golf
- $150/quarter food & beverage minimum
- Cart fees are $19/round or you can pay $125/month ( I hear its a tough walk, they only allow a few members to walk because of pace of play issues)
- No commitment, you just need to give 30 day notice to cancel
Gets you and your spouse access to the entire club (pool, gym, tennis, etc). I’ve heard its a challenging course, a lot of target golf, not sure it’s the type of course I want to play every day if that’s true, but it’s hard to beat the price.
Ha! Well to be fair I did document 8 holes, but skipped over the boring par on 3.
Was able to get out to Northwood yesterday for a Father’s Day round with a couple buddies and our Dads. Every time I play this course it gets better, can play it several different ways and the setting is incredible. If you have the chance to get out there it is worth it.
Just off 1st tee
From 7th Tee
Love it. Do you know if they are allowing outside of county play yet?
Folks go there looking for MacKenzie…which there isn’t much…but just enjoy the fun vibe playing through the forest and hitting nearly every club in the bag. And yes, many holes have different ways to play…the fun of short par 4’s. 9th green is the steepest anywhere!
@fullbodyfix - They didn’t check a single ID of anyone who was playing and it was a really busy tee sheet.
Did you take a cart? Northwood has to be the most walkable course out there. Didn’t even know they HAD carts. It’s been like 15 years since I’ve been there to be fair
@carrera pin on 9 was front right in a diabolical location. Hit any putt 12 inches past and it was off the green.
